Re: running boards fitting points

Hi,

OEM mounting points are inside the sill, two threaded holes above each other (or nuts welded inside - not sure). There are 2 of them per side for the SWB and 3 for the LWB. The L-shaped brackets attach to them then the running boards can be attached to the L brackets.

Sorry haven't got a good picture handy so here is one from the 'net showing approximate shape of the brackets.

Are the holes threaded on all Gs even if ordered without factory running boards? Not sure, but there is a solution to that - involves cutting part of the sill out so best check you have the threaded holes before you buy any boards :)

Hi Adrian

there was not any fitting points on the 460. I bought a conversion kit from America, you need  someone competent to fit it.

Strange!,

My memory serves differently, on the inner sills there two grommets either side for SWB and three for LWB. Removal of these grommets gives access to threaded inserts for side step bracket bolts The grommets can be confusing to locate as they are over sprayed with thick under seal, this has to be removed also.

Re: running boards fitting points

463's have them for sure as described by Rakesh and the accesory brochure atates this

I am 99% sure 460's are the same as i can remember Reto fitting them in our workshop back in the day and the holes with captives were there

Axel has recenly unearthed the holes on a 91 463 under much underseal and grommets as described above, i am sure he would drop you a picture or two of the location to narrow down your search

Re: running boards fitting points

It is wrong to say these are on the sills from my way of thinking (presuming they are the holes I have seen on my '88 460). The sills are purely the fore/aft tubes. These tapped holes are on seprate side/side top hat sections that are welded to the floor but butt up against the inside side of the sill "tubes". Lot of underseal on them and will definitely need retapped threads as they will be corroded by now.

Sorry if that confuses folk more.. cannot find a decent photo of under floor to show you but the link to those aftermarket ones show the shape of the brackets with the small leg of the Z bracket taking the "board" and the longer leg bolting up onto the floor behind the sills (hence the length of the middle leg of the Z as it has to drop down from behind the sills).

Now I remembered where I saw those photos (for a 460), Karl's website:
