Tyre choice
I'm probably opening a can of worms here, but......
I've got 31x10.5 15's on at the moment - BF Goodridge AT's. Would be interested to know what your thoughts are around what I might replace them with - the same again, or different? What I'm most interested in is traction on snow etc.
Cheers
Hi
the narrower the tyre the better the traction in snow and on ice.big fat tyres are like skis....I use a set of standard G wagon steel 6J wheels in the snow fitted with "Continental" snow pattern tread tyres
On pointedthree.com (predominantly US G-class forum) some speak highly of the Bridgestone Blizzaks, or the ultimate Scandinavian option, Nokian Hakkapelita(sp?). All the big names have 4x4 snow tyres (Michelin Latitude Alpin for one example) so your options are many.
Which is all very fine guys but remember the poor guy has to travel on ordinary roads not snow and ice covered for the rest of the year I'm presuming .
My two pence worth is stick with what you have and replace them with the same and off you go, just take it a little easier in the bad weather. Now if you have time to look around maybe you might be able to pick yourself up a nice set of wheels complete with some s/h winter tyres of a premium brand on them after the season is over on a European website. These you will then have for next year and at a reasonable price that you can justify.......and .......still have a premium set of BFG A/Ts for the other 9 months of the year.
Regards,
Mike
PS Michelin Alpin, Vredestein wintrac 3, Nokian Happa's are all well proven products amung others.
