Evening all

Having purchased my first G, I was wondering anyone could recomend a good mechanic in the Kent area?

I live in Kent and am currently working in Staines.

I have had a look through the old posts in this section, but was hoping someone might have had a more recent good expierence.

I dont know jack about engines and stuff (used to try and poor the enginge oil down the dip-stick pipe....) I just want someone who knows thier way around a G and will do a good job for a fair price.

Thanks in advance

 Try these people ren7oaks.

I know their a Renault garage, but they service mine and Shauns G, and I believe a few others, I've seen ML's and other 4x4 there also. I'd imagine by now they know their way round a G Wagens better then Merc main dealers. Always been very happy with their service, and I take mine down fron North London.

M4YGE,

How old is your G?
What is the current service history?

Not sure on your service history to date, however if you work in Stains you could try Brooklands, they are a main Flagship Mercedes dealer, they will apply the star 6* discount if the vehicle is over 5 years old. I think its 28% on parts and 32% on Labor. Had my G serviced there now for almost 5 years.

If it is fully Up to date and serviced by MB you also benefit from the Mobilo life, full roadside assistance. (free roadside assistance, breakdown cover, free hire car etc etc)

If you would like to have chat, please call feel free to call Duncan Martin, Service Manager on 01932373411 and say that you have been recommended by Joe Askew of the GWOA. I will state that even with the discount, you could find cheaper places, but they do know the G (for a main dealer) and all parts replaced will carry a 2 year warranty on parts and labor.

I hope this helps a bit

Hi Mark

Thanks for that, I know where they are as I used to work in Sevenoaks.

I will give them a bell, as well as the few others I have had recomended, and will let you all know how it goes.

Cheers

Hi Spider1V

Its a 1992 300D (with a retrofitted turbo).

I think the history is "full" but perhaps not to the extent that would get me any special offers (theres not many merc stamps in there).

I will give them a call also and let you all know how it goes.

I'm not looking for the cheapest quote I can find, more somewhere that I can take it and be happy that they will do what needs to be done so Brooklands might be a goer.

Thanks for ya help.

On this topic, what is the current MB policy on parts/service discount?

I used to get a standard 10% discount from MB on account of the vehicle was over 5 years old.  But I recently spoke to MB Newbury (Savernake) and they weren't offering any standard discounting he knew of (he then went on to offer 10% on one of the items!).

Does GWOA membership leverage anything from MB?

What is the 6* Brooklands offering, and do other dealerships have it?

Re: Wanted: A good service in the south east...

 jdring,

currently MB policy is

3+ - on all cars 3 years and older it should be 10% on parts and 15% on labor
6+ - on all cars 6 years and older it should be 15% on parts and 26% on labor

They have recently changed to the above and speaking with Brooklands this morning they were suggesting that most main MB dealers should offer this, however he could not comment on the independents. He did mention that the whole MB servicing policy will be changing soon, to a more customised/personalised service, however while I had him on the phone I have asked if they will do something special for the GWOA, he did comment that they provide such a service for the MBOC, there should be something for the G's - he is now looking into it and I will post our findings when they get back to me.

Re: Wanted: A good service in the south east...

In general I avoid main dealers like the plague, other then with a major fault where full MB back up is needed.
For general service  i'll always choose a good independant, and it's not about saving money, i'm convinced your car is serviced better.
If you likel the "good morning sir" from a bloke in a suite, luxury lounge and free coffee, then main dealer is the way.
If you prefer a "good morning mate" and a chat with the mechanic who will actually work on your car, independant is the way.

Of course, if you can't find an independant you like / trust, well then it's back to main dealer.
