just had one of the best days ever, i flew to bristol with my friend gordan and were warmley met by mike axle, in what has to be one of the best g wagon ever, a 460 mike has shoe horned a 606 beast into, mercedes need this man on there design team it was better than factory.     the sound it produced was savage only matched by its acceleration,i could not belive a 460 could move like that. The brakes were my next surprise they brought us to a stop like a modern ml,i have seen the light to have a g that drives better than a modern jeep of any make is possible with out having to spend a fortune.mike brought us to meet a guy called mark who has a fleet of g wagons as well ,he has a beauty of a 463 as his daily drive all the bells and whistles,he was kind enought to take us for a spin in that, lovley drive, he is putting in new front springs and shocks soon to further improve the ride, a smart g for sure. Then to make the day even better mike introduced us to a pure gentleman bye the name of tony, when they made him they broke the mould what a guy, intresting would not be enought to say.tony has a 461 with musso engine that can spin its rear wheels on tarmack WOW,this g could shift, have you ever tried to put your seat belt on with your teeth because you cant let go of the hand grip on the dash, well it can be done i am proof.I am home now and on the hunt for all the bits nessary to creat the perfect g wagon it can be done,Tony is creating the SUPER G in his workshop this man can fold and drill weld and twist anything possible to make a g into a G/ reat ,the SUPER G i cant wait to see and hear when finished.a huge thanks to Tony and his partner and friends for a wounderful day and for showing me what a proper g can be when built by a true enthaust,IF you are thinking of making your g better look at Tonys and do what he says,my next thing is to book mine in with him for the surgery,I CANT WAIT FOR THE DRIVE HOME.

Ah!!!! I see you have the 606 bug....... they are great, I have yet to have the pleasure of a trip in either Axel's or Tonys G..... maybe when the full Wood and leather is put in I will have a go....wink. So how long will it be before you get yours?

Glad you enjoyed it.

Re: wounderful day

thankyou paul and gordon! we enjoyed our day with you also 'good lads' from the south .

i think you may of got a bit excited and mixed up my workshop with the one at tony b's ,i am building the super 'g' pickup with the swedish demountable camper at the farm above the lake ,tony has the g for africa and the danish army g and the the green 461 van you drove , cannot blame you it was a bit of a blur for me- happy days!

tony gave you a 'full flavour behaviour moment' i will film one of his group 'b' rally g experiences he does at a random one day , you just never know when he's going to do it, and by the time i have the camera out he is gone in a cloud of flying mud.

joe, ref the leather/wood etc i am just in the middle of reassembling the super g cab interior /dash and i am dropping some parts up to the trimmers to see about leathering the inside up a bit as the prices from merc to replace any parts that the mobile phone installers (cretins) have drilled is silly, so a repair and leather binding of some of it comes out at half the price.

paul is going to go for 605a (2.5 litre)  power as the road tax in eire is something else on larger motors ,he was going to go 662 musso(2.9 litre) but the turbine like multivalve engines are very compelling, especially the fact that you can crack the 30 mpg barrier if you go 'steady away' on all the 60x engines ,which maybe a bit sedate but it is nice to know you can do it. the package of the 60x engines and a good condition 'g' makes good sense as you get the modern performance and driving experience (if it is up together brakes/chassis/supension) and you get decent fuel consumption and no electronics to go wrong leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere.i was very lucky with my lwb i bought it 9 years ago before the g values went up up and away 64k miles with wood /9 seats /labels still on the diffs from new and i paid £3400 for it /but th efuel consumption of the 280 was terrible/the tales of getting 14 -18 mpg hmm maybe in a swb with a feather on the throttle on a run it was more like 8 mpg when towing the horse box and 14 mpg the rest of the time -in a word useless/as it will drain you dry. i put £25 worth of diesel to run paul and gordon about all day and it was all at speed /quite a few miles of running around and it still has some left for some more shooting around- happy to rip out the 280 petrol waster -you're damn right, it has halved my fuel bill and my g can be used every day again -win win.

it was a pleasure to meet you both ,and do feel free to return when you feel the need /i will let you know when the super g is running to try 605 a with 6 speed before we do yours . super g pictured
