July 14th Summer Drive Report

 In almost a 30 degree heat 5 G wagens with 11 passengers in total set off from Banwen on our "Summer Drive". Pictured above we are about to set off and enter the "Sarn Helen Roman Rd". Attending were  John Webber with two passengers, Alex & Julie Frost, George Cormack & family, Mark Blomfield & myself. The conditions were very dry not having had any rain for approximately 10 days, this meant being at the the rear of the convoy was extremely dusty. It was a relief to get off the gravel and onto some good solid rock.

 After about an hours drive we decided to stop and take some light refreshments, I took a fridge so Ice cold water was on hand aswell as a few welsh cakes which seemed to go down well. A few members took the opportunity at this rest stop to experiment with their G Wagens and find out exactly how cable they were at some more extreme angles.

 We then carried on for about another hour before decending down into the Neath Valley where about 500yards from the end of the byway we arrived at Aberdulais falls. We made our way to the tea rooms where a helpful bunch of staff looked after us extremely well serving us a light lunch with some tea and cake. Following on from this we were given a guided tour of the falls and the remains of various buildings from many different industries dating as far back as 1584.
