Hi, just wondering whether this is normal, driving the G yesterday ( went to Brooklands for a BMW 2002 meet and hillclimb) obviousley it was a hot day , temperature fine whilst on A roads but whilst in traffic for 5 mins or so temp crept up to the 3/4 mark, as soon as I got going again temp back to normal halfway. No outward signs of overheating ie no steam or water leakege and the fan appeared to be working fine, is this normal behaviour or do I have a problem. Also I recently had an alrm/immobiliser fitted, the fitter concerned told me the system could not operate all the doors due to the central locking at drivers door, suggested I needed a new motor? strange because central locking worked fine before, bit of a pain because cannot lock doors from inside, and need to lock drivers door first , then press alarm, does this sound familiar to anybody.

love Frannie

G getting hot

Yep normal, but keep an eye on it and flush out the radiator and refill with 50% antifreeze if its not been done in 2 years.

As to the locking – the drivers door lock controls the locking of all the other locks – I have an remote alarm and the locks work ok – I would either suspect the fitter if it worked before. If all the locks don’t work when the drivers door is locked then either the motor is shot or the wiring is screwed up somehow.

hot G day

Hi, thanks for the prompt replies regarding the overheating issue, I will keep an eye on it. As to the alarm, I have spoken to the fitter and he informed me that my drivers side door is only fitted with a slave solonoid hence before alarm was fitted I could operate the central locking manually by turning key, he says this does not work for the alarm and that I need an electric master solonoid for the drivers door , once this is fitted the system will work. He is a really nice guy and was recommended to me through Richard at Mercseller.com. Can anybody verify this or perhaps can supply the part, any advice would be appreciated.

great forum at the moment am going on everyday.

thanks Frannie.

It’s true you need a master on the driver’s door: but was it locking all the doors before from the driver’s side? If so then I would have thought you had a master there. You can use any after market master – my truck has one that was not from MB and it works fine – try an internet search for central locking spares or similar.

As to you over heating – good idea to check the state of the radiator – does it look original – they do get all full of crud and eventually need replacing or rebuilding. My truck had 115000 mls on it when I bought it and already had a new radiator – only goes a bit over the middle on a hot day but that’s up hill its ok in traffic.

Hot G day

Hi, thanks for reply. My G had a radiator supplied and fitted by Schmitt autos NW6 in Oct 03 at a cost of £681 inc vat the G has done approx 5000 miles since then. I will look into putting in a master solonoid as soon as I can locate one.

thanks Frannie.
