Computer information in the dash
I have '98 G500 LHD which (surprise, suprise  ) displays German words with little icons below the speedo. My local dealer offered to try and change it to English for me, can this be done on my model without changing the speedo unit? Does anyone have experience of this? I imagine there's a market somewhere in the world for KPH and English words???
Thanks in advance

if you're talking about the multifunction display, i think it can be changed to english, try the following:
go to the screen (by pressing the back/forward menu buttons) that says something like
< Settings can be set at standstill >
then press the down arrow twice, you will come to a list of languages, use the +/- buttons to select the one you prefer (this works on a 2000 G500 with English/KPH as standard, and gives you a choice of French, German and other languages).
All the buttons are steering-wheel mounted ones, i hope that's the same as yours.
ah sorry i guess yours looks like this
while from 1999 onwards they used the steering wheel from the then-current S-class
(sorry the pic is not that clear)
then from 2004(?) onwards they changed the steering one more time, to look something like this
maybe somebody else with the manual for that specific model can help, it is quite a rarity, those models.
good link on the history of the series:

actually they finally went the way of most other 4x4's, it is now automated as well, thru a rocker switch on the dash i think - S N G - the three letters remain :)
Unfortunatley I don't have any buttons on my steering wheel. There are all situated either side of the speedo. Did the interiors change around 2000 to the lastest spec?
