I am just about to agree to buy a 2001 G500 and import it from Germany. However, my local dealer cannot find the clear type headlights that dip to the left or a speedo that reads in MPH. The later must be available as they are fitted on the US models. Does anyone know the order codes for these? I have to know I can get them otherwise I can’t buy it. I must change both and confirm the same to the VCA, just fiddling with the parts is not a option.

Thanks in advance.

MPH speedometers were not required for personal imports when I imported my 460 300 GD (1999) or my 463 300 GD (2002). Unless there's been a change in applicable regulations this should continue to be the case. As for the headlamps I don't think that the clear ones were produced in a RHD version, given that when they were first fitted to Gs the production of RHD Gs had been discontinued. But a good alternative would be to fit the headlamps of the "standard" RHD 463 Gs made from 1991 to 2000.

In any case, you dealer must be a complete idiot for failing to find the ref of the speedo that reads in MPH. He just needs the VIN of a RHD 463 G-Wagen to access the codes.

Good luck and don't let these prevent you from getting that G!

Cheers

I have been on to a G55 owner who is known to us all. He has the mph speedo and the correct headlights, turns out it is just the bulbs you change. He gave me some numbers to call to get the correct parts. It seems to me that the speedo is the one produced for the US market where both the G500 and G55 are available.

As to my dealer, he was good. It is just that the 2001 command G was never sold in the UK so it only gave him the European options. He contacted MB technical advice who would not help him.

Thanks for getting back so quickly.
