drivetrain problem
Hi to all.
Can somebody give me an idea how te solve the next problem. Mij G is 300GD (463) 1990, with 319K kilomters. Its a 5-speed manuel gearbox. The problem is when I shifting in gears, each time the clutch is comming up I hear a clunking noise and feel a shock in de drivetrain. When I schift up or down alwayI feel the shock en herd the noise. I think its comming from the front drive train. The front differential has been dismantled, but looks oky.
Any ideas ??????

Front propshaft U/J or the centre differential. Does it still "clunk" if you lock the centre diff? Could also be suspension bushes in the front radius arms, either at the chassis end or, more likely, at the axle ends.

It is just taking up all the slack in the drive-train. All the little bits of slack add up to making a clonk on take up.
Land Rovers come out of the factory like this!
I would check for obvious signs of wear, particularly in UJ's and bushes. Try levering the bushes with a crow bar to see if there is a lot of play and replace as necessary.
If there is nothing obvious - I'd just accept that it is due to overall wear and live with it. Worth changing all the oil just in case it has conributed and be gentle with it as the additional shock loading does the UJ's no good at all.

Mike thanks for you reply.
Today I did make a testride and engage the centre differential. Now I hear no ""clunk"" en feel no shock.
At the moment I disengage the centre differrential and I pull in the accelarator pedal or when I take my foot off the pedal I hear the "clunk"" and feel the shock in the drivetrain again. It does't matter if it is in the 1st. 2nd, third or wat ever gear.
Any suggestions.
