hi,

im after some off road beefier tyres. i have been looking at the BF Goodrich all terrains and they seem to be a nice compromise of off road capability and on road control.

i think the problem i have though is the 5.5" x 16" rim, are my choices more limited due to this?

any help, or guidance on better tyres would be great.

Tom

Re: Tyre Choice

Tom,
As you like to play as well, forget the BFG AT's. Get the BFG Mud Terrain. They are great tyres - probably unbeatable as a do-all tyre. Many G-owners use them. Club should really organise a discount with a nationwide supplier on these...
Size 235/85-16 should work well with your setup.
Don't pay more than £90 per tyre, possibly cheaper...anyone here knowing of a better deal?
If the above is too steep for you, my 2nd choice is the Colway C-trax MT at half the price of the BFGs. They are remoulds but better than many new "famous brand" tyres.
Happy G-ing...

Re: Tyre Choice

Though if you have loads of money try the Michelin XZL, the military choice of tyre, the 7.50 size should fit those rims. They are incredibly tough and can be run at very low pressures without sidewall sag as they have a steel belt running around the sidewall. I would have bought them but couldn't afford them. Military G's are fitted with this tyre. My mate has them on his LR V8 stage 1 and they are awesome. Funnily enough they were in a sale at ATS, I think he said he got for £90 a piece, a cancelled military order, they may still have some. When I was trying to get them a few years ago I was quoted around £150 a piece!!! They put my Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's to shame. Go for the Imperial 7.50 size and you get three lugs across(bigger tread gaps, better for off-roading). With the 235/85 metric equivalent there will be four lugs across instead of three, meaning for slightly better road handling.

Thanks Jesus,
Worked it out to 31.7" ... a little too small for me. Still need the rims first though.
Cheers,

I'm thinking of going for General Grabber UHP as a purely on-road tyre..any experience with that, lemme know, or I think I shall be the first.
Tempted by the price (£68!)

Re: Tyre Choice

I have Colways as mentioned by mercfan, exept they are 245/70/16's. They cost +-£45 each, so it is not the end of the world if you lose one. They impres me every time on the road as well. The only negative thing is that I only get about 15000 miles from them, but that include a lot of off-roading.
