Lower windscreen repair panel for a 460/ Rear door repair
Is there anyone making repair panels inc around the lower half of the windscreen panel for a 460?
The inner section has gone on mine (behind dash forming bottom of windscreen surround .. it was only about £40 for a OEM bit from the dealer which worth it IMHO for the hassle of making such a complicated bit.. likewise rear replacement panels are cheap compared to labour to fiddle to make sort of similar but not same thing. Must get around to removing windscreen to do panel but for the last 16 days nothing but a 4x4 has reached my house so it is low on priorities.. await the summer :)
Look like you are just where I need to get too! I just hope my front panel is not as bad as that.. nothing visible yet under the bonny silver paint of my SWB.
My fuse box is questionable now as the water sat in the plastic cover and corroded everything.. the permanently live ones actually corroded themselves off at the fuse hole on the front tang so I had to solder on new bits.. so have a good gander at your fuses.
the work looks pretty neat, after all is done and dusted! i know this is a 460, but i am trying to get to the same stage you're at in picture 2, in a early 463, though not sure how to go about it. i got as far as removing the steering wheel, wood trim, centre wood trim & dash controls and air vent, radio, glove compartment and gear surround, but wasn't sure how to go further. Yes there were many screws left, so i guess the trick is just to keep going at each and every visible screw (and remove the instrumenet panel/speaker coverings and all) until it comes out? Ah the joy of tracing water leaks...i've already set my mind on changing the spindles, but want to make sure that's the only source of leakage!
Can anyone give me an idea of costs involved for the work taken on here? I need to do mine as well, surprise, surprise. I may need to have two front wings done too so am wondering what sort of costs are involved. Thanks in advance.
M2dxb,
Yes a question I can answer  ,
1st the knackered spindels can let in a shocking amount of water,
2nd you may have a leak from your heater air intake housing,
or the rubber drain "hoses" from heater housing may be perished,
and I recall I even had a drip from the battery box, good luck.

Thanks for that! I guess 15 years in UK winters will do that to wipers, so a change is in order. Interestingly the part numbers have changed (again) according to my local dealer, i'll try posting them once i've ordered the bits and can verify they fit...one day the dash HAS to come off to take a good look underneath, today on the M1 when it rained hard, I could feel the dripping at my feet!
M2dxb,
You should be able to fit new wiper spindels without removing the dash.
Its a bit fiddly but against time to remove dash?
If you felt the water dripping on your feet it sounds like you most probably have a leak from spindles.
Marcus
Sorry SierraTango got no idea of the price of such welding work..
Thanks again Marcus for the encouragement, I noticed in particular the bonnet/hood opening handle gets soaked, and a line forms along the inside wall, near the speaker in the footwell.
It was only afterwards that I realised the procedure is to pull out the whole assembly through the glovebox (if I understood it correctly!), so that shall be my first try when I get the bits (and try to get a discount from the dealer..lol).
Here's a pic when I removed the old handsfree system and wiring
M2dxb,
Cant remember if the glove box removes seperate from the dash / or if I worked below it, I did not extract bits through it for sure.
Cheers,
Marcus
Finally the bits have arrived. I hope they are the right ones, I guess there is only one way to find out...
Marcus could you please elaborate a bit on your method, without removing the dash (I assume you're talking about a 463 not 460?).
If it's easier to talk it through just PM me your number and I'll give you a ring, if you don't mind. I hope to 1 day remove the dash and look behind it, just to learn, but if it takes hours and this can be done without, then it is certainly worth a try, as time isn't on surplus at the moment.
Thanks
M2
No M2, I'm referring to a 460, and I scanned your post to see which model you were working on, BUT missed your reference to "an early 463", so ignore my previous re fitting wiper spindels.
Abashedly,
Marcus
Ah, well thanks anyway, back to the drawing board!
M2
You bought an allen key and a screwdriver off MB,
Marcus
LOL, I think if you knew what they cost you'd do the same. Same bits at Halfords probably cost more! And now my oiriginal-teile tool kit is complete :)
The big Allen key is for closing the sunroof manually if power fails, not something I like to be caught in sunny England without.
That looks superb well done! it gives me hope with mine
Nice looking car shame about the wheel cover!!
the wheel cover could use a round piece of plywood or plastic sheet glued behind it to give it shape
