aux tanks ?
Hello all ,
started sort out the 1984 280GE that i brought off ebay all is going as planed ,
however the motor has what seems to be one aux fual tank under one wing and a water tank under the other ,
the fual I understand but whats the water tank for ?
you can see the water tank filler on the photo .
I have now gone G mad and brought a tidy 230GE to use on road .
Time to rejoin the club me thinks !!
Cheers
Cliff
I guess the vehicle was used for long expeditions and the water was for drinking!
Are you sure that the second one is for water?
MB never offered a second tank for water. In 1984, you could either have the 70 litre standard tank or optionally this one plus a 15 litre saddle tank or these plus a second saddle tank. But they were always supposed for the fuel.
In fact the drinking habits of the 280 GE were such that by 1984 most of the 280s produced had the two optional petrol tanks.
could it be a shower??
I did something similar to an early Motor home self build 'T' ed off the heater matrix and made a coil from 10mm copper to heat water for shower and washing water. it worked really well.
What's that strange looking blue thing in the background?
 thats a ufo (but they dont fly)
there always lyin by roadsides with the bonnet up and nice men from the AA and RAC working at them
but why its parked @ twodogs home i dont know
Those Stilts will never catch on, they go over rocks quite well with wheels on
Have you still got those tanks cliff? They will come in very handy for my cause....
Arrrg damn!!
fuel tank question:
I have two aux fuel tanks under the rear wings, and a strange switch on the dashboard. It would appear that the tanks are connected directly with the main fuel tank slung between the rear wheels, and the filler cap pours through the right hand tank to the main.
Is it likely that I have a switchable reserve supply (the switch appears to do nothing) or will filling the tank to the brim fill both the aux tanks and just give me better range?
What ho!
I suggest you contact MARK BLUNDEN who is the southern area rep for the GWOA, look for post from Mark, I am sure he will be delighted to assist you in any way he can.
sorry all, it turns out (after I got the ancient alarm system to work) that it actually turns off the alarm!! why would anyone want an alarm that you can turn off from the dashboard!!!
totally beyond me.
