3, what price for a new one ???

its done this about 3 or for times since i bought it
but i just turned the keys off and on and it started , two weeks ago
i wouldnt start just clicked i tried the jump leads with no difference
and went back to it ten minutes and the pig started
parked it back in the garage, went to take it out yesterday for its monthly run out and this happened
would i be right in sayin that the solenoid is working ???????????/
maybe the brushes are worn on the starter

Re: STARTER PROBS ON G280 AUTO

This has been discussed on the forum before, try a search.

However I seem to remember that it has something to do with oil / general crud getting in to the starter, preventing the bendix(?) drive engaging. Removal and clean out may fix it.

My problem was the solenoid. It would click / engage but the contacts were burnt resulting in a virtual open circuit to the starter. About £12 for a genuine replacement from an electrical motor factor.

It was an absolute pig to remove, managed to break one socket.

Probably worth gettin a good used or reconditioned starter motor for it if you are moving it on anyway, it is the same engine as the 280 saloons of that era so you should have little dificulty getting one.
If your anywhere near Guildford, i have one on my Spares car if you want to remove it & give me a small sum.
