Re: Diesel emissions test

We have that test in England for MOTs. The engine has to be taken to max rpm momentarily. Repeated 3 times. The oil has to be at 80c so it can't be done at cold engine at least. My garage only takes it to about 4000 rpm or there about certainly not holding it at flat strap.
Thet told the story of a old ford or something that continued to run flat out on the oil being drawn up from the crankcase, they literally couldn't stop it. Ignition was no good, tyied putting it into gear and stalling but couldn't engage any gear. Meanwhile the garage is filling up with black smoke. They had to push it outside just to give them time to think.. .
Anyway my suggestion is to adjust the throttlecable so it only goes to 3000 or some other suitable rpm. Then it will be fine, just a slow trip there

Re: Diesel emissions test

It isnt too bad it been in the UK for a couple yrs now not good on old timing belts though but as the G is chain it safer. It sounds alot worse than it actually is.
A tip to pass the test is to make sure you change the air filter and on the way to the centre let it go max revs for each gear change it will clear the exhaust.

Re: Diesel emissions test

Roly,
That is indeed the answer, I was not sure whether "they" would accept such a subterfuge, the thought having crossed my mind.
Yes Greeny,
I had been advised to do just as you suggest.
Thank you both.
