I maybe corrected here but maybe steel rims are a better option for a overland trip a alloys will get ripped to bits .

Agreed. Keep them standard. Less room required for second spare too.
Take welding rods in a sealed container. Often you can find a local welder but the rods are poor. Also good for partial payment along with the Malboro and Camel cigarettes :D

Agree totally with above. Some of the dirt roads have terrible "powder holes". As you drive along, the road appears perfectly ok and then you hit this hole which is just filled with powdery sand dust like baby powder. Often, at the bottom of this hole are some real nasty rocks and some can be a foot or more deep. Your tyre will be finished and irrepairable and the (original) steel wheel probably have a bent outer lip which can be straightened with a hammer, but I have seen alloys where the centre section has completely broken free from the outer part - scrap!!!

I won't be going fast enough for such damage, I am taking a 460 diesel remember.
If I lose my wheels I will be on the net asking you to send me a spare by courier ASAP. And the other thing is that I have 6 16” alloys.

You don't need to go fast at all! Not too long ago been to the Okavango swamps in a Chevy Blazer(5.7SB, lockers, 9.00-16 mil-spec tyres). On the main road north of Maun, was just keeping momentum in the deep sand, about 40kph lockers front and rear engaged, the small block purring at 3000rpm when we hit one of the powder holes. Burst the tyre, front of vehicle went airborne, sent the locking ring flying and bent the inner lip. Suddenly understood the multitude of L...R....s with ripped out suspension mountings. Welders make a killing out there... Going off subject though. Think about it, the only reason you want alloys is because you like the look. Well so will someone else. Do you really fancy waking up in the morning with your axles supported by rocks? You are going to cross some very poor countries where anything is game for a few quid to feed the family. You'll get them back. Probably the same people who took them off will come and sell them to you and you'll just have to pay when you've got a crowd suddenly surrounding you when you try arguing. There's a site on the net where us bikers usually post about our experiences when crossing continents. A MUST read for you!!! Been out of touch recently but here it is, there are several others as well...
