epc and Service manuals
I really would need to purchase
Marcus
For the service manuals contact the GWOA Technical Officer.
As for the EPC, you can find how to buy one from MB here> http://www.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=364
Cheers
I got a Epc set of 4 DVD`s that cover all merc`s including the G`s, but for the life of me I don`t know how they load or the manner of working out details from them?
So a trusted source would be best.
Plus the above link does not work?
Plus trying to get hold of the GWOA Technical Officer just doesn,t work.
Stevieboy, I am sorry to learn that. But please insist: send him an e-mail and I am sure that he will get back to you.
Indy G, the above link is for GWOA members only. Become a member of the GWOA and amongst a plethora of delights you will be given access to the "members only" section
Just posted my £25 in the last couple of weeks for renewal of this years payment ahead of time! Proud member into the second year.
Still not able to access this above link??

That is a matter for the site admin to deal with... Hello?
Was not aware of a private members section on the forum?
Can anybody say how to view members section? as a member?
I am interested in purchasing these but am unsure what use I can make of them. I am correct in thinking that all I will be able to do is get the part numbers for items I want to purchase. I assume they are not like workshop manuals showing how to get things appart / together?

The EPC is a collection of exploded views and part numbers of all Mercedes made in the last 30 years or so. It's useful also to figure out how parts are put together but with limitations.
The service/workshop manuals cover all the "how to get things aprt/together" for models made until 1994. From then on this is covered by the WIS, which I don't like at all becuase of its limited content on the G and it's cumbersome information accessibility (it takes longer to find it than to fix it!).
ASRA is the program used by MB to calculate working times and labour charges. You don't need it.
As I said, if you are a GWOA member:

Interesting. I think for the money I might buy them as they will be of some use to me. Thanks for the advice.
Can someone spare me an idea of how much should the EPC cost please?
Jeff
Many thanks for your repsonse Marcus,
but the link provided by Jesus is accessable to members only. I suppose the e-bay would be a non-member's best option, thus this knowledge would help to avoid placing a bid higher than what it's actually costs plus other charges the sellers impose for using PayPal and postage.
Appreciate your kind understanding,
Jeff

Oh I see.
Price is € 38 + 16% VAT
But you won't get it on Ebay for that (not a genuine copy).
An besides, what is £ 25 p.a. (GWOA membership) for a wealthy expatriate such as you?
Join the GWOA and you will have access to it all.
Cheers
I can state from experience that the DVD version of the epc that I got on ebay loaded easily and works well. It covers all Mercedes models and includes a reverse lookup which links parts to models. The other advantage over the cd version is that it’s loaded onto the PC and doesn’t need the cd to be in the drive. I have an official cd version and the DVD one is much better to use.
And given the attitude of MB dealers when asked about availability of the epc the ebay sellers are giving us a good deal. It is after all only a parts catalogue which owners have right to view. They are probably breaking copyright in selling it but our use of it is covered under the copyright laws “fair usageâ€Â
Woha Jesus, .. where did that come from ... wealthy expat? Ouch** Pls remember, the currency we run around with is around or more than 14 times the GBP, so dollar for dollar, or pound for pound, you're looking at spendings similar to GBP350 .... so, where I come from, there's a lot of instant noodles in there.. :?
Thanks for letting us know its cost, but quite frankly, its not the money as I did try to join GWOA late last year in support to great efforts, (if not, fantastic efforts) put into the association without looking at further benefits, but the facilities available does not encourage outsider membership. This is unfortunate as I recall, there were threads to indicate that there were others who were also interested. I can only imagine the silent volume.
If there's a committee who could explain the association's standing in recruiting members abroad, I think there would be plenty of ears around.
Back to the EPC, (if I may say so) you're without a doubt on the "guru" level and the times that you have accessed the parts information must have surely superseeded its face value; whereas for the likes of me, it'll be a nice to have while I am sourcing the globe for used parts ... heaps and heaps of thanks for the likes of Nick who's helping me out.
Come to think of it ..... funny how this wealthy expat can only drool over the newer G's like yours, while owning a 82 Model Puch (which incidently, was given t'me as a present). Hope no offence taken, please do take this lightly.
But quite frankly, I am horrified at the prices the DVD's come to on the fleabay. And thanks, I was wondering if they were genuine ones. I do agree if you, Ernest, are saying that MB should give them out for free as the EPC is a facility for them to generate revenue .... from genuine parts sales... and ridding the need for piracy. :D
Cheers
I think MB should really sell parts catalogues and manuals at a sensible price to owners who wish to maintain there vehicles. The DVD version from MB is going to be very expensive (I would imagine if the WIS is anything to go by) There are DVD versions on eBay right now for 9.99 – a sensible amount.
The CD version, epc compact has all the G models but requires a different code to install the different models – 460 463 and 463. I can’t get more that one model to install at the same time on the same PC. In addition the CD has to be in the drive whilst the catalogue is in use, unless you setup a virtual drive for it. As a result it is not as useful as the DVD version – this coupled with lack of part number to model lookup makes the DVD a better proposition.
The copyright law in the UK allows a certain amount of “fair usage†which would include owners attempting to source parts to repair their vehicles. This would come under “research and private study†Obviously, anybody selling the EPC would be infringing copyright. Unless a vendor is claiming that the disks are genuine it is not piracy merely “bootlegging†and this is a civil copyright matter.
I would not be without my DVD epc – it is a wonderful resource.
Agree with above; however, do you know if hard copies are still available for 463 models (and if so, up to which type)?
Thanks for that Jesus.
Cheers,
Marcus
