HELP! GLOWPLUGS ON 463 300D WON'T COME OUT!
Hi
Have a G300TD 2000, trying to change the glowplugs but they won't come out. One has already snapped off and the others do losen but then become tight again. Am I doing something idiotic, is there a special tool or something i should be doing rather than just trying to unscrew them?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Mike
Mike,
Sorry to hear of your glow plug troubles.
Had the same problem with 2 of mine on a w124 estate. There is no special tool I'm afraid + the fact that you've snapped one off is not good news either. My mechanic tested them all, identified which weren't working + thankfully was able to remove those ones, albeit with extreme difficulty.
He stated that if I insisted on the removal of the others he would not be responsible!! stating a requirement to drill out plugs after taking off head.
If it goes that far, I have a spare head from a 1991 463 diesel.
Good luck. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news........
Possibly try your luck with a decent screw extractor(sykes, snap-on, etc) for the broken off ones, but only after lengthy application of Diesel, WD40, etc. over a few days...
Don't know if anyone here knows of something that'll dissolve carbon?
ok, i 63336'd it and this is what i got back,
'things that can break down carbon, so a plug can be removed from a diesel engine block, are acids, steam, or products like WD-40 or Vapour-Jet'
the wonders of the modern age.

p.s even a cola has a good bit of acid in it, or a strong lemon juice. i can think of any domestic ways to buy some stonger stuff
Coke is great I used it various things including my back door hinge and a stuck spark plug on another vehicle it eases rust a treat but needs a good 3/4days soaking.
