I have been searching on the other forums for a solution to this problem but I have come to an impasse. The problem is that the diff lock does engage but after going over a bump it disengages. I can then switch the diff lock off and switch it back on again and it engages but after going over another bump the problem recurrs. I have checked the vacuum pump, which stops as soon as I put my finger over the exposed pipe. I have done the same on the pipe that goes into the Diff Lock Switchover Valve as well as the exposed pipe leading from this valve and finally the pipe that goes into the tranfer case. The pump switches off after about 15 secs. I'm doing this with the engine off and the diff lock switch engaged. This suggests that the vacuum system is good but possibly that the vacuum can't be maintained. I'm at a loss to know why a relatively minor bump disengages the diff lock. Anybody out there got any ideas?

Re: Centre Diff Lock Problem

Testing with the engine off will limit the vacuum held as this does not last long. I suspect the switch over valve might be faulty, after engaging the switch, try tapping with a small hammer the s/over valve to see if the simulated bump will disengage your t/box.
check to the wiring see at the s/over valve and jiggle the electrics to check that you do not have any grimmlins.

Have to agree with our tech rep. This type of problem is 99% of the time a loose/imperfect electrical connection.

Re: Centre Diff Lock Problem

Firstly, thanks for the replies. To cut a long story short, the fault was traced to the rubber diaphragm in the transfer case bell housing - it had a split and would not hold the necessary vacuum. I replaced it and the o ring (cost about £20) and the diff lock is now working as it should.

Re: Centre Diff Lock Problem

does it actually disengage though, is the red light going out and the yellow staying on ?. it could be the switch on the transfer box or a lose wire thus the red light going out. mine did the same, it was the switch on the t/box in the end.
