Advice required please.

I need to replace my tyres requirements as follows: 2500 miles a year a 50 50 mix of on and off road, the off road is not classic "lane from hell" stuff its towing trailers in fields that are inavriably wet in winter with a mix of light car trailer or livestock trailers, the gateways get very muddy in winter and there is a decent degree of slope on most of them. I would like to start doing recreational 4x4ing as well.

Russ are you using Colways on your 460? if so how do you find them.

Thanks John.

Re: Off Road Tyres

Hi I had colway 31/10.5x15 mt tyres on my swb 280
A bit noisey on the road and not easy to balance
But I found them to have weak side walls (split 3 )

I have BF Goodrich AT`s on my Colorado they have lasted at least 50k
miles and still have 5mm tread left .

For a 50/50 mix I would choose BFG MT`s Same Life more grip off road.

Regards
Giles :)

Try the insa turbo's. They are a couple of great guys, very genuine and have some interesting "toys"

Insa Turbos:

I know a couple of guys who are using the Dakar in 235 / 85 R16 size. They have nothing but praise for them performancewise but the rubber is very soft and they don´t last for long. Though at those prices you may as well change your rubber more often!

Price is competitive at GBP 63. We pay roughly the same over here:

Re: Off Road Tyres

Thanks all, I will give the Insa's a try, my milage is low and the tread pattern looks just the job for getting out the problem which required the neighbouring farmer to drag me out with his massey this time last year much to his hilarity

Re: Off Road Tyres

John,
If you go over there can you take my spare, they have a new tyre to go on it.
Tell them I sent you. You won't get a discount it just makes me feel good :D

They really rate the insas, used by a lot of the competion guy's apparently. There was one on my 460 for a while, looked good but never used in anger

Re: Off Road Tyres

Russ no prob's however it might now be next week due to the £880 bill to get mine through the mot ouch!!!

Oh well that's last years repaired fuel tank, new disks, fuel lines, pads etc, with this years new fuel distribution unit, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor, starter drive spindle, rear springs, rear bumper fabrication, throttle linkage rebuild and complete strip down of the fuel system.

But my god she sounds great now, no misfire goes like a rocket (well a slow heavy one any way).

But like any addict its just great to get behind the wheel again. :D :D :D

I will call you and pick up your spare before i go over.

We need to go for a play as soon as the tyres are on!

Re: Off Road Tyres

Cheers John.
Sun. 10th Dec. Nant Mawr Quarry with http://www.muddymillers4x4club.co.uk/ or Green Laning in Dec? I missed the last outting but sounded good. 10 river crossings one of which i may have bottled out of as it was 3ft. Could have done with some fresh water to rinse all the crud away though :D

Anyone else up for it?

Re: Off Road Tyres

Nant Mawr Quarry, they do an extreme enduro event there, missed it last year due to school, but my mate raced it with Honda, said it was amazing.

Re: Off Road Tyres

Thanks for the advice Insa Turbos fitted from the chaps at uptotheaxles.com, £278 including fitting & balancing. Interesting website, look at the specials they play with. I was stood next to one whilst they were fitting the tyres. Looks awesome especially with the pitbull tyres, now there is one vehicle that could done the TLFH on its own, mind you would want to drive there in it :D

Pictures below, have loads more grip, now happily getting in and out of my very wet fields in conditions when I got stuck last year, not even required the diff locks :D

On road, a little more road noise than the old road biased mich's but surprisingly not much. Wouldn't want to throw into any corners though
