Hello, new here, but thats rapidly changing....

Ok, seem to have an electrical problem involving lights. Had a bulb blow out on the indicator, left side front, on the hood, and after changing it there was a burning smell in the drivers side. smell went away, checked fuses and saw a puddle on the battery, white greased the battery connections to ensure that wasnt the problem. Now last night we had what we thought was a headlamp bulb blow. This morning, after changing the bulb twice, and the smaller one too, I have come to the conclusion that I have a packet of blown replacement bulbs or nothing is wrong with the bulbs at all. Any ideas as to what I need to do?

Edit; ok, update on info, full beam works, parking light works, so Thats the bulb and cable discounted, what do I need to do next?

24 volt, x-Norwegian army G from 1986, had it about a week now. Consider me to be a complete new born when it comes to cars when explaining something, "big round things, four of them, they are WH_E_E_LS" kind of assistance may be helpful :D

Puzzled ?
I do presume you are using 24 volt bulbs?
Your voltage regulator, or the electronic "thingy" that does the same job may be playing up, have you checked with a meter ?, or is it blowing bulbs without the engine running ?
If you hold a "blown" bulb up to good natural light you should be able to see where the filiment is broken or detatched, may need to tap it a little to dislodge filiment.
dont like the burning smell, but if the fuses are correct they should pop before any harm occurs.
PS
Just got my own car going again, head scratching fuel problems ,air getting in somewhere, finally rechanged the very recently changed fuel filter, and problem solved, this despite having disconnected and checked and found nothing wrong with the fuel pipes, but snipped old ends off anyway and retightened on the old filter, this before replacing it.
"Doh" as Homer would say

Im guessing the G has been standing remove bulbs and WD40 the same with the fuse box give things a good clean .
Is the whole G 24 volt or is there a step down to 12 volt ?
Check all earths and tighten and WD40 any crusty bits , is the body earthed to the chassis ?
just work though the lot in slow time its will be something daft .
Twodogs :D

Hello Marcus,

Simpsons is on 4 times every day here, so It is the same, I could ask what it used to be....

What we are thinking, as my girlfriends father is now in the fray too, is, that the voltage regulator may well be playing up, where is it? The other possible is the full beam switch, not working to feed the message "normal beam please" and therefore creating the problem, NO BULB IS BLOWN, we have checked and I have changed them three times now, all 24 volt thingywatsitmajig..... so thats not the problem, next was the cable, but if full beam is working.......not the cable then. Gotta be the switches or the Regulator....maybe

ok, fuses are in a row under the steering block, all are well, all appears to be 24v. Earth I found seems fine, (lots of brown cables leading to one point?) we are thinking full beam switch, contact, thingy wotsit, but cables have tobe good for the full beam to work, fuses are ok, and ALL the bulbs are fine.....

frustrating day to be honest, looking forward to having the lights work again.
I will get it and fix it of that there is no doubt.... :D Thanks for the assist.

Edit update; Got a contact in Germany who told me to open up the relay box for the headlights, when I asked him where the box was.....I dunno was his reply, go figure!?? So if anyone can tell me where the relay box is for the headlights on a 1986 240gd I would be grateful, and sorry for writing everywhere but I know not where the answer will come :D Trying everywhere for maximum potential
