My tyres...255x75x15 FATE, on Alloys under flared arches and Used on road only, have reached the end. they looked good and performed very well. As replacements...will FULDA TRAMP do the business and look the business?

Thanks

Re: tyre buying advise

Have alook at BF Goodrich ATs in size 31/10.50x15 this is a cheaper American size equivolent to a 265/70x15 european size but still the same tyre, same spec and generally available at a better price.

Fulda/ goodyear also a good tyre but personally don't look as good underneath as a BFG and won't get the same mileage.

255/75x15 as a size does not fit too many vehicles as standard and so the price tends to be higher, although its now an old size so there won't be as much profit taking on it.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Regards,

Mike

Dil, If you liked the Fate's, or fatties as affectionally I call them, I have a set on my red diesel (Range Runner AT) in your size, which I am going to take off soon to make way for MTs. In over 2 years never a puncture and good in winter as well. They are still in excellent shape with LOADS of tread left. PM me if you are interested.

Re: tyre buying advise

Hi Hus,
I loved the old pattern pirelli ATs ( shame about the STRs) and invariably were trouble free from a sales point of view. the only time I saw anything wrong was acustomer who by his own admission abused them for most of their early life then gave the jeep to his wife as a run around and she complained when the tyres started to self destruct on the top (going out of shape). Conditions of use and all that. Great value though.
The goodyear WRL HP great when new but aquaplane like f--k when worn but not to the limit, also not massive grip off the road slightly. Goodyear MTRs are a purposely designed tyre and they do what is expected of them as do most mud type tyres. JUST DONT PUSH ANY OF THEM INTO A BEND TOO HARD OR ELSE !!! In fairness this applies to all mud tyres.
I suppose its part of the reason personally I like the allround abilities of the BFG A/T tyre.
Where we are based we deal with a large agricultural community who use their vehicles (4x4) for what they were ment for. We need repeat business so we recommend tyres based on their intended use and we respect our customers collective judgement on tyres we fit for them.

Fate to the best of my knowledge are made in Argentina or somewhere like that and would be classed as a budget brand in the great scheme of things.
Regards,
Mike

Re: tyre buying advise

Mike,
As you are in the business, would you be able to tell us who the Fate's are made by. I have been told that they are being made by one of the big tyre companies specifically for the harsh Argentinian conditions, but who????
A friend who runs a fleet of transit recovery trucks swears by them and I personally have found them that good that I am actually reluctant getting rid of mine. Only because I NEED to go onto MTs.

Re: tyre buying advise

Its not so much who makes them, its that for your use they are suitable and you find them an ideal tyre for you as does your friend.
Horses for courses and all that and value for money too. Happy campers one and all.

As far as manufacturer.
I suspect they are made by a ex conti, goodyear or Pirelli factory under licence in Argentina. This factory would be contracted to make tyres to their local recipe for the South American market or an individual vehicle maker over there. The rest of the time they would maybe make own brand tyres for Sears or Walmart or themselves. Overproduction would be sold in containers on the open market to the highest bidder.

Re: tyre buying advise

whilst we are on this subject, are the BF Goodrich ATs directional? As in should they be mounted with the treads pointing in a certain direction?

Re: tyre buying advise

See, another happy customer(for someone).

That you may have luck with them, and normally I might say to someone that is not driving a G. That they may outlast your jeep when referring to BFG tyres.

Mike

Re: tyre buying advise

Just replaced 4X tyres on my 'G'.
Wanted MT and a slight lift while at it.
Went for 235/85 16 on early 463 alloys.
Cooper Discoverer MT are the chosen brand/type....... Really pleased with them.
Look great and from what I have been told by those in the know, they are very tough and side walls strong.

Hopefully do the job when I finally get back on the move.

Regards
Peter

Don't think so, but double-check by looking at the markings on the side-walls. If they are, there will be an arrow pointing out the direction they are meant to run.
