JACKING UP !!!!
hi all
what the best way to jack up the g wagon ??
mine has no jack
i belive it lives under the bonnet due to the fact the is a space with a leather strap there
280 ge ragtop 1985
many thanks steve :D
i would invest in a high lift jack steve.best thing ever!!
any pix of your ragtop mate?i also own a rag top.
Any two-ton bottle jack will do. Just check that the uppermost part of it is U-shaped so that it can effectively hold the axle.
if you use a high jack where do you put it?
Found a space behind the back seat for it. Can't really pose it outside sadly. :( But seriously, if we used a high lift jack .... where can we jack it up from? Question is, are the original front and back bumpers strong enough to lift a loaded G?
In the 460 they are.
In the 463 they are not unfortunately. The only solid part of the bumpers in a 463 is the centre section of the front one. The rear is made of fiberglass no less.
If you do serious off road with a 463 G I recommend replacing both bumpers and getting a set of solid side skirts fitted directly to the frame.
Really Jesus? This is great news. I wanted to install solid side steps, but was advised that the displacement from the chasis to the jacking point on the step is such that it could cause the side step to bend during lifting of a fully loaded G. So for an effective design it would probably un-proportionally increase the body weight. Not sure about the 463G though.

In this picture we are holding a SWB 463 G by the weak standard side steps, and yet they did not get bent as a result of this. I guess that everything's up to design and the materials used but I have seen a few examples of very solid side steps attached to the frame.
is it me or are the steps a little bent
You're right but it was nothing serious, specially when considering that they will be replaced.
did you get the snow in spain ?? looks fun :D :(
we missed the snow here on the island :(
This was on january 28th at the Collado de la Quesera, between the provinces of Guadalajara and Segovia in Spain:
