Wonder if this is still available?
Always thought there's more to the M110 than what meets the eye...will be a good bit faster than a W463 300GE

That looks a good kit bet it was expensive from AMG, I liked my 280 engine for performance so would be faster than a 300 GE for sure, only the drink problem I couldn't live with on my old G especially if you put the hammer down on the motorway, the 463 wins on that one with better mix of power and economy.

Ummm I am not so sure about that.

The reason for the 280 GE to me more thristy than the 300 GE must be partially down to its lower power to weight ratio. The fact that it is a low compression engine must account to part of its inefficiency. I am pretty sure that the hi-comp engine of a saloon 280E or a coupe 280CE into a GWagen must make it less thirsty than standard, even though or precisely because it's got 185 HP rather than the standard 155/150 HP.

Anyway this AMG is listed as one of the engines fitted to the GWagen in the book Das neue grösse Mercedes G Buch by Jörg Sand (page 55). It is praised as one of the best engines ever fitted to a GWagen, though I have never known of any GWagen fitted with it.

INDEED

It is a fact that higher compression equals higher efficiency - up to a point of reasonability. The only reason for the low compression in the G-wagen engine was to enable it to run on poor quality fuel in 3rd world countries.

In simple terms, higher compression ratio means that the same amount of fuel/air mixture gets compressed into a smaller space before being exploded and hence a much higher explosive force acting on the piston. So in very real terms "free" extra horsepower for the same amount of fuel. :D
So, seen from a different angle, less fuel will be required to do the same amount of "work".
And that is a big part of the reason why diesel engines are so fuel efficient.

Quite possibly and more...
Especially if you consider that Mercedes was able to extract nearly 300bhp from the old single cam 280s engine - 315 degree cams, tripple webers, full equal length tubular primaries, 10.8:1 and some other lovely bits :D

Maybe that as well, but more like 87 octane out of a metal drum of questionable origin and age
Not ideal but if that's all what is available then you have to...

I doubt that you will find any for sale. But perhaps you could find a car fitted with that engine in Germany. A W123 280E or CE

Re: 280 M110 AMG

so this kit was fitted only to left handers then. Or is it only the ones with AMG badge on?
