hiya

I want to fit a new car stereo, but the wiring loom connector I bought does not fit what I have found behind the dashboard.

the wiring loom connector I bought looks like this

the connectors behind the dash appear to be three spade connectors for power and earth, a 5 pin round Din connector and finally a long bladed connector with about 20 pins that looks like a small scart plug.

Did the 280ge come with standard wiring for the stereo or would it have been specially fitted to match the stereo that was installed?

am I looking at a trip to the auto electrician to get the wiring upgraded to a modern version? or can someone recommend a better plan?

Re: non standard stereo wiring

I have found more information about this now, and may be of use to anyone else who has similar problems in the future.

on further investigation, the 7pin din connector runs to a pre-amp under the glove box this is where all the speaker wires connect to.

the mini scart connector has a cable that disappears into the depths of the dash and from what I can tell from the 1980's german manual (it was a blaupunkt stereo) there should be another box about the same size as the head unit attached to the other end. I am hoping when I find it that the box will have the aerial connector on it too.

This means to get a new stereo installed I have to remove the head unit, pre-amp and wierd box, and extend all the wiring up to the back of the dash then solder in a new ISO connector. This should allow me to attach any modern stereo I like.
