I am in need of a little advice. I needed to replace my rear discs and managed to remove all the brake caliper parts and the cross head securing screw but just could not get the discs off. I followed my WIS instructions. I'm assuming that the disc is jammed/rusted on. Any advice on how to get the bu**ers off woud be great.

As an aside, I sourced my replacement discs and pads from VW. When I picked up the discs to check they were the right model there was no VW serial number on them but just the Mercedes part number! The price was over 50% less than that charged for the identical item from the local Mercedes dealer.

Re: Removal of Rear Brake Discs

Although I know nothing of 463's, i've done loads of rear mb discs. Does the parking brake operate inside the hub part of the disc ie like a mini drum? If so you will need to back off the adjusters (usually on the 80's/90's saloons you pake a screwdriver thru a wheel bolt hole & turn the knurled wheel, although i confess i cannot remember which direction!! Sometimes a good wallop with a club hammer or mallet can do the trick, its not like damaging the disc will cause you a problem if you are replacing them anyway, but ENSURE there are no stray fixings holding the disc on first. Another trick is to heat the surface of the disc that mates with the hub (the areas where the wheel bolts locate) with a blowtorch, get it bloody hot then bray it with a hammer, DO NOT try to pull it off unless you have an ambulance on standby.

Let us know how you get on.....

Same here... the manual I have is only for the pre-1996 models, i.e. rear drum brakes

Thanks for the steers. I'll give it another go. The VW/Merc part numbers are as follows:

Merc rear disc - 902 423 03 12, VW rear disc - 2D0 615 601A

Merc rear pads - 000 420 97 20, VW rear pads - 2D0 698 451B.

Very valuable info, thanks! Incidentally, why did you have to change the discs, were they below minimum thickness, or not smooth all-round?
And most curious, how did you find out about the common parts!
I assume you got them from Al-Naboodah...will bear this in mind if ever ours need changing. There were some G55 (slotted) rear discs on ebay recently, going fairly cheap, looked very tempting but wasn't sure if they'd fit with the old caliper.
