Hi All,

Just alittle bit of info for all out in G heaven.

B F Goodrich are going to make available in UK/ IRL many of their sizes in the US over here on a phased basis and in small numbers.

One of the first of these is a new size which may be of interest to us, at least to those using Marty's favourite 18" wheels. Its a 265/65x18 BFG All Terrain. Slightly higher than the 265/60x18 already fitted.
The price over here will be around 165.00 euro + VAT
These will be available from mid March along with a complete new range of Michelin road/ off road performance tyres and winter grip tyres(bit late now).

Regards,

Mike

Re: Tyre update

Hi,

Dan:
The 18" wheels that I have came on 265/60x18 on Yokohama Geolanders. These are like hen's teeth to get in IRL.

Peter:
No word on rockcrawler tyres and I wouldn't hold out much hope on the BFG front as outside of personal import they are too specialised. Thats not the official line, but based on experience. Michelin say that these tyres arenot certified for use in Europe unless on a vehicle imported from the US with them on it.

Roly:
Michelin have been looking at the growing market for high performance 4x4 tyres in Europe ie caynne, RR +sport, v10 tdi, X5 etc and they are bring out a replacement (eventually) for the synchrone renge starting initially with 18" plus sizes. This will be a road tyre mostly with the emphasis on performance, and boy do they perform. The Diamaris range is moving more upmarket still. 15" synchrone won't be replaced for a nice while yet I imagine.

Recently I was in Germany at ADAC testing the new range of summer and winter tyres. Impressive stuff. We were using Honda CRV, RR sport and Cayanne all petrol.

Regards,

Mike

P.S. Personally I will miss the old synchrone as I use them on the wifes Disco TD5 after having come from Pirelli and Goodyear I find them the best value/performance overall.

Re: Tyre update

What could I fit when the Yokohamas wear out. I have some 16" winter wheels as well, which I prefer, easier to clean and make the G look more business like and less P Diddy like.

Re: Tyre update

Hi Dan,

If you are talking about 18" wheels and tyres, I am also faced with the same dillema with my 18" wheels.

Yokohama, kumho are the only direct replacement I believe. Personally I wouldn't touch the Kumho. The Yokohama are O/E fit and are expensive as a result (captive market).

Me, I'm going with the aforementioned BFG A/Ts when they come available.

As I use my G for drawing a trailer on land with timber in it, I think they would be my best bet allround. And lets face it we won't be flying off the road boy racer style in a 300D.

Regards,
Mike

Re: Tyre update

Peter,

Just got word Michelin the importers are bringing in two sizes in the rock krawler tyre you mention. Exact size and when to follow.

Re: Tyre update

Hi Peter,

Nice bit of work. Officially Michelin the importers do not list this tyre yet, so they don't import it yet. Devon 4x4 have brought these in as a personal import I guess.
If you are not under pressure hold off on buying as the official price may be more competitive than you can get at present as they would bring in by the container of mixed sizes. Southams or Micheldever would probally be a good source for you in time.

Mike

Re: Tyre update

Hi Fred,
Personally I would prefer the Yokos nicer pattern, better in the water, better on the gravel, safer bet overall but maybe harder to get and the price should be cheaper if found in stock.

Otherwise its a change in size to 255/55x18 same as RR and DISCO size, far more available and probally at a good price also. This tyre will be a little lower in wall height and width but should not make a noticable difference overall . If going for this size go for the Michelin Synchrone or the new Mich Tour which is a 85% road tyre, super grip, have driven on them harshly in a Cayanne and they really do the business.

This is all based on your size being a 265/60x18.

Mike

Re: Tyre update

Hi Fred,
I swear by the Michelin Synchrone. I am on my 2nd set after having tried all else.
Recently I proved the point to a customer in his new Nisan Pathfinder on Goodyear OE tyres vrs Mich on a Disco on road same section.

Boy was he surprised at the result.

I hope you will be happy with your choice, by the way they give super mileage too!!!

Well Wear,

Mike
