Just bought 300 GEL Auto 1992 L reg, but no book on how to use it! How do I get it in to low range? Used to have 230 so just had to move the leaver

If it didn't get used much it can be very stiff. Try shifting while in Neutral.

Just a bit slow at finding that big black lever behind my left elbow! Where can I buy a hand book?

Ahh didn't realise that that was the problem!

Your local Mercedes dealer *should* be able to get you a manual if you provide your chasis number.

I think that it is not available anymore in English and I bet that the one on Ebay is going to end up costing an arm and a leg! In the meantime, if you can live with this scanned copy, then you don't need to spend money on one:

Oh and when shifting to/from low range, aside from making sure the transmission is in N, try to do it at walking speed (very hard to do offroad, so always engage it BEFORE you need it), it helps engage smoothly. If you stop the car with tranny in N and transfer case in N..you might be stuck for a while!
