Roll Cage!
Has anybody fitted an external cage to a G or know someone who could?
only Safety devices..
what next ! Jezzzzz, Im telling Alix
have you guys seen gavins G with orc front and bespoke rear bumpers.
looks mean like piggysims.
yes,he has sent me some pics last week.
i have just secured his 463 ff/rr bumpers and he sent pics of the bumpers he took off and his G at the moment.it lookeg really cool.
i would send them but i dont waqnt to offend him if i dont ask him first.
i will email him to do the honours.
I've seen pics of a G somewhere in London that had an external roll cage fitted. Though Ian has rolled his a few times without a roll cage and only the windows popped out.
i think the landie needs a roll cage being made of paper mashe!!
a g however has the roll cage built in.
I have seen Gavin's G. It does look very good. No pic though until it is finished I understand.
thats what he said dan,so lets wait till april when he's back!
Logically, what exactly are you going to be doing with your G. If you want a bush bar over the roof you will have to fix some where. And I believe this will de-value your car, again, depending what the future holds for it. Paint work can be rectified and in the long run a respray may be more economical. If your thinking of going into more competative off roading, then get a second vehicle.
I got some pictures last week but as Huss is saying...they are not to be revealed....... :D :D :D :D :D lovely truck tought...
i think everyone will have pics of this truck before long :!:
but it will be gavin doing the honours :D
Hi Gents,
Jeezz...this is getting out of hand, I didn't realise I was so popular...or at least my G was !!! I can assure you all, that I will post some photos of my pride & joy soon, probably around May, as I'm not back until around then. I just want to finish all the major external mods first too. I also have an Off road magazine interested in doing a small article on the vehicle, so they're hounding me for piccies as well !
Rich - I'm having an external cage fabricated around the windscreen and along the edge of the roofline, as far as the 'B' pillar and then spreader plates mounting through the roof. The idea is similar to yours, in that I want to protect the windscreen, leading edge of the roofline and to mount a row of spotlamps across the top of the windscreen too. The company I am using is www.protectionandperformance.co.uk and they are based near Skipton in North Yorkshire.
P&P, seems to be a bit of a debat about them on other forums, good and bad. Look forward to the piccys.
Thanks Peter,
I had a guided tour of their factory and quite abit of money invested in state of the art machinery, they may not be as big as Safety Devices, but they don't command the same prices either ! They are more convenient too, being just fifteen miles away. They fabricate cages for customers all over the world and all disciplines of motorsport, doing quite abit of work for Devon 4x4. So I'm confident they'll do a good job.
Gavin, I would be interested in the same protection. How much and can they make two ?. I have a 463 so should be the same.
Peter,
I don't see why not and they would be very pleased with the interest from the GWOA, as that's three of us already considering an external cage !
They quoted me £450+vat for the cage plus £35 per hour labour, this obviously depends on how much access is needed by removing the interior trim, including the upper dashboard panel. The specification I requested was a front external cage around the windscreen, mounted to the bulkhead of the 'A' pillar at the base of the windscreen and the roof above the 'B' pillar using spreader plates to secure to the standard hoop of the vehicle between the roof and the headlining. A lower screen rail, clearing the wipers, to spread the load between each side, which can be unbolted for access to wipers. Four spotlamp brackets on top of front hoop. All this for the above price, not bad I thought. However, they have a lead time of about six to eight weeks, mine is booked in for the beginning of April. Give them a call: 01282-842200.
cheers
Gavin, any update and pictures of your truck, its June in 2 days !
Don't through stones living in a glass house !!!
Any pics of his car yet?
