I have a 1983 300GD SWB Auto with an STT Turbo kit, and was wondering if anyone can help with any possibilities of replacing the front disks with ventilated disks. I'm still using the original 16" steel wheels.

The Cyprus high temperatures and the Automatic gearbox on such a heavy vehicle, result in frequent deformation of the disks.

I know I have to change also the calibers but I would be very greatful if someone could share his experience or knowledge on this matter.

Thanks,

Alexis

Alexis,
If you change the rotors you will have to change the calipers as the vented ones are wider.
Im wondering if you might be able to swap whole front struts with all the gear on from a vented model.
Wonder if thats possible ?

My kit is from STT and the link is below.

http://www.sttemtec.com/index.php?show=1185_ENG&&page_anchor=http://www....

With the intercooler, which I have ordered with the kit, the engine gives out 126 bhp and 258 Nm torque.

I've had the conversion for 8 years now and had no problems with the engine or the gearbox. The thing to watch out though is the pre-combustion chambers. Depending on the use, temperatures and neglect these chambers can start to deform, break and drop a piece in the combustion chamber and destroy the pistons, valve and head.

Otherwise it's an excellent kit with good instructions, tidy and professional. It also demands more frequent oil changes. A detailed service scheduled is provided with the kit.

The reason I chose this kit is because the OM617A (Turbo 617 engine) I bought did not suit the original automatic gearbox on my G. I didn't want to convert to manual, so I converted the existing engine.
