om617 to om617a
if i got a om617a engine what would it involve to use th turbo parts on th non turbo .is it just swapping of the turbo parts onto the om617 or is it more difficult. my non turbo is mint with only 100k on it so would rather keep this in.
you would blow you engine up.......in time coz the compressions are different between the 2 engines
Additionally the 617A has cooling oil jets that squirt the bottom of the pistons to keep them cooler. The calibration of the injection pump is differnt as well. Swapping the engines would be a much wiser choice.
If you have AC the compressor may need to be reconfigured to a different location if yours is currently located on the left side of the engine. Turbo will get in the way. I has been done though with a modified bracket.
Mine has the 617A engine in it and it performs fantastic.

Hi unfortunately you cannot istall it this way on a right hand drive vehicle the brake servo and steering column get in the way.the marinised om 617 engine has the narrow profile exhaust manifold with the outlet in the right place for a turbo installation which allows you to use the existing air filter
fixwin,i think you've not met the man called Moss :!:
the G 2TDG's known as "OIL" has all this fitted with aircon and i am gutted i didnt buy it before cliff. best 460 swb in the country me thinks
enjoy it cliff
I've seen such a conversion on RHD 460's twice and they fitted and worked great. I used to drive a OM617A converted one for 2-years.
Only thing is fit an upgraded clutch as the standard one on the 300GD cannot cope.
Also if you don't have the OM617A air filter with the engine, you can easily convert the standard OM617 G air filter.
or go one better and fit a k&n apollo cold air freeflow system alexis
i is gonna do that to my cab together with a snorkel.
