G wagon straight through exhaust HELP
I have just purchased a rhd lwb 463 and after having it fully checked over it requires a complete new exhaust. However it has been suggested to me it is possible to remove the crossover and the the final silencer box and simply have a single box and the exhaust straight through on one side.
Does anyone know if this will have any adverse effects on performance given there is a turbo fitted? Also does anyone know if the noise produced by having only one box would be too loud to pass an MOT?
Any help, advice or experience in this matter would be much appreciated
I have a 1999 LHD G300 TD and have done exactly that...straight down from the manifold keeping the flexi section, then into a thro flow large single box and exiting through a 2 and a quarter pipe just ahead of the rear tyre. All this in stainless and for £500 - Contact Don Pembleton at Stainless Exhaust Specialists in Mansfield, sorry I don't have their tel. number to hand.
Cheers Gavin
try power flow in St Albans, they did a stainless for my 280 for around £300
It does have quite a nice sound to it under acceleration, but it went through it's MoT a few days after being fitted, without any problems.
On my 463 petrol I had the large nearside silencer deleted when having a new stainless steel exhaust made up; unfortunately because it was post 92 I had to keep the cat, the note is distinct and rorty especially with a k&n filter. This was carried out by "Long life exhausts" of Cardiff whom I would happily use again having previously had them make up s/s exhausts for a gd 300 and a ge280
I too had a full system made up by Don Pembleton of Stainless exhausts.
The work is first class and I would use them again.
I opted for a two box system, deleting the first box under the drivers seat. To be honest I think it is a little too loud and I am considering fitting a third box to quieten things down.
Kind Regards
Peter
Thanks for your response Gavin. That sounds like it might be on the noisy side?
