I have a feeling my steering damper might be shot. I have quite a bad wheel wobble coming through the steering at around 60 mph ( it disappears at 70 mph ) , although this might be front wheels out of balance. Additionally the car does pull to the left under braking

I think I would have a look at your steering components from the steering box out to the wheel hub first especially on the LHS as you sit in the vehicle before I would shell out my readies on a new damper.
You would be right on about the damper up until you mentioned the pull to the left.

Have a look anyway, by then others far more knowledgeable than me will have come up with other suggestions which will probally make more sense.

Regards,

Mike

oops, typed that wrong, it pulls to the right under braking. I think this might be a brake issue though as I have just had to replace the left calliper as it had seized on. I might look at changing the flexis on both sides.

Re: knackered steering damper symptoms

Hi that's about the right speed for the damper vibration.un balanced wheels seem to come in at 40/45 mph...if the damper is on its way out...it is so easy to remove...two bolts and if there is any part of the travel that is not under pressure and smooth change it...its a bit like the bonnet strut you should not get any droop.....I have a new one but it is for the 460 which is lighter construction......see previous posts in this forum

Put the right part: A4634630032

Get the part from Ebay with a big discount versus MBUK:

All of them are made by Stabilus, but the one you quote is the thinner and weaker version

early 463 owners note, when changing from thinner to thicker one, you will lose all self-centering ability of the steering wheel..but it will be much sturdier!

Hi David; unfortunately the EPC that I have access to does not list the latest G models -G55K- included but I can tell you that the correct part for the G55 AMG is A4634630032

Cheers

Re: knackered steering damper symptoms

Just ordered a new unit from MB UK.
They quote part No. 000 463 6632 for a 50mm OD unit.
Retail price £93.98+vat.

They also list the thinner unit @ 38mm OD. Retail price £72.57+vat.

Hope this helps?

Peter
