hi all

my project 460 is on the road now  however i have a weird problem with it.....

when i steer at very low speeds, i get a kind of knocking/vibration through the steering column, as if something is loose or worn, yet ar soon as she's up to walking pace she's fine. there is very little play in the steering, and she isnt significantly wandery either.....its just plain weird (and annoying), and obviously i'm concerned somethings going to fall off or break....

any ideas out there?

cheers, john

Re: low speed vibration/knock

Have a look at the sliding section of your steering column (it looks like a baffled section between the steering box and the bulkhead). They can become worn and give a slight Knocking noise through the steering. The trick is to disconnect at the steering box, and slide the shaft off. Then cover in silicone, reassemble and let it dry.

The shaft by the way is designed with the baffled section so it will collapse in the event of an accident.

Also the anti role bar bushes can creek. Give the bolts a good tightening to compress the bushes. If this fails it may be necessary to replace with new ones.

Vibration and knocking can also be caused by a worn steering damper, or if turning tightly a CV joint.

Hope this helps
