Mapping/chipping my 1991 GE300..
Hi, after researching the possibility of a Kleeman / Brabus upgrade to my GE 300 V6 and having taken on board advice from a member of the board i have decided the way to go is to remap / chip the engine. I would be grateful if anyone could let me know the best way to do this and indeed has anyone done it to theirs ??
many thanks,
Pete
p.s. Am i correct in thinking the GE300 produces 200bhp ?? And...would the AMG twin exhausts which the previous owner fitted improve performance ??
thanks for any input !
185bhp i think, and are you sure its a V6 ??
straight six and 170bhp when new. The equivalent engine on the W124, W126 models produced 188 bhp. Figures are for non-catalytic engines
The most interesting conversion I've read about was from the UK company Turbo Technics who had a twin turbo conversion for the specific engine. It produced 310 bhp. A past issue (I believe from this year) of the magazine "Mercedes Enthusiast" has a report on a high mileage 1989 W124 300E with this conversion from new. According to them, the engine seems to withstand the effects of the conversion.
True I have heard a few accounts of the M103 engine being Turbo'd without changing pistons, con rods etc and it takes the power without a problem, nice to know it has some spare reliability. Apparently the M104 does not even work for very long in standard form and does not like being messed about with at all.
In 1991 the 6-cyl petrol engine on the G was the 3 ltr straight 6 M103 engine not the M104.
Dont worry Pete as Pambos already said you have the super bullet proof M103 like me :D M104 was repeatedly changed by Mercedes and ended up as the 320 but was never as good as the 300 M103 which was produced unchanged for a long time.
I should add that the M103 engine is the sweetest Mercedes engine I've experienced.

Well said, I like this engine more than all the others ive used for any length of time, check out this video starring M103 8)

He, he, I love the comment of the proud German guy:
Hehe, ich gug mir das Video immer wieder gerne an *g*
Why do so many People think that this could kill a Enginen? It's a M103! You can only kill this beast if you kill your self !INSIDE! the car. (e.g. driving down a cliff)
I hadn't noticed that :D , the Germans know how to treat an engine, I saw many 260E's and 300E's on the autobahns this summer still going faster than all the new cars all these years on
It's not only about the engines... it's about the quality of the whole car! Mercedes hasn't made anything like the W124s and W140s of the 80s-90s and I am not sure that it will ever make it again...
of engines. What do you think it may be ? thanks,,pete
