Has anyone done/contemplated putting an m103 engine in a manual 460? My 230 m102 is knackered, and i've been offered a recently rebuilt m103 and manual 'box, sadly its only the 2.6 not 3litre, but its an engine i love - have had a 300e and a 300se, super engine.

Really tempted as my 300se was incredibly economical for such a big car, and sooooo torquey...

Any thoughts? I'm hoping the box is actually the same as whats already in the car but i'm worried about the extra length of the engine - may have to put an electric fan in front of the radiator but i'm sure there's an extra port on the m103 head anyway....

Though I am not an expert in these matters, I don't see why it should not work.... at the end of the day, the M102 is nothing but the 4 cylinder version of the M103.

Some things to consider:

-You'll probably have to shorten the propshaft that connects the gearbox to the transfer case, given the lenght of the M103 over the M102.

-The gearboxes fitted to Gs are normally modified versions of the Mercedes asloon equivalents and can be modified with a bit of ingenuitiy. Here you'll find one of such conversions: http://www.gwagen.de/html/english/gearbox.html

-To know more about G-Wagen gearboxes, check Harald Pietschmann's wonderful website: http://www.4x4abc.com/G-Class/transmissions/getriebe.html

Good luck!
