CULTCH PEDAL FAIL.......
hi all
just got in my g to go for a spin in the snow :) and the cluch pedal went staight to the floor :( i have the master clutch cylinder replaced , is there any thing , it could be ?? when the engines of the gear still go up and down the manual box
thanks ss
Slave cylinder I guess.
About £45 from Merc.

Probably, but just check the pin in the master 'fork' that attaches to the pedal top hasn't come out - stranger things have happened :? or even a loose pipe coupling. Clutch slaves usually give a little warning and this seems quite sudden
If it is the slave cylinder it will have lost some/all of its fluid. Check the fluid level, also remove the drain bung from the bottom of the bell housing. If fluid comes out its definitely the slave cylinder.
The fluid needs to be replaced regularly, alongside with the diff locks fluid, at least every three years in climates as humid as that of the UK. Otherwise, water gets into the fluid and eventually rust finds it way into slave cylinders. It costs very little money to keep in tip top condition if you do it yourself...
How do you change the clutch fluid?
Hi Bleed it out of the reservoir via the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder body using a piece of hose that fits tight over the nipple into a jam jar.. discard the old fluid and bleed new fluid into the jar until bubbles cease.......Note-: replenish with Universal .4+ brake fluid....
Hi was this a problem before you had the master cylinder changed?? if so and you can overcome it by double declutching it could point towards a synchromesh problem..or wrong oil in the gearbox...this cold weather any gearoil like SAE 90 is thick and will cause gearchange problems...the correct fluid is ATF ( automatic transmission fluid) yes!! even for the manual G'box... if you need to change the oil..... drive the G' for thirty miles until the oil in the G'box gets hot... open the fill bung then the drain bung and drain until no trickle.put the drain bung back in fill with ATF until oozing out of the filling port ....replace the fill bung and drive for thirty miles...you should notice a marked improvement...if not then worn synchros will require stripping the G'box to rectify......control rods may be suspect but would show up as the same problem when double de-clutching. If the problem is new since the slave cylinder change then the Hydraulic stroke of the clutch pedal is not adjusted correctly.the adjustment is between the fulcrum link on the pedal arm and the piston in the clutch master cylinder...
ps if i doule de clutch is fine also
The pumping action of double de clutching and the gear change working OK once you do that could point to air in the system, combined with slightly weak syncro.
Try beeding it again, worth a try before you jump in to stripping gearboxs
I'd double check those link rod bushes too - 50p each
many thanks will get that sorted out on monday :)
