Wipers & Rain Sensor

Hello everybody.
I am posting this question here as I am not sure it strictly falls under "Electrical".
The rain sensor system on my 2004 G500 does not work properly: the wipers travel at the 2nd scale speed irrespective of the amount of rain or drizzle. Even if there are only a couple of drops on the windscreen, the wipers continue to work (and do not stop unless I switch off the system). There is no intermittent speed.
Does anyone know how does the rain sensor system work?
Does anyone know where its "computer" is located?
Has anyone met the problem before?
I will be grateful for any help.

Re: Wipers & Rain Sensor

The sensor is behind the mirror under the black trapezoidal pattern on the windscreen.

The sensor works by reflecting IR light onto the windscreen. So make sure that it is clean and check the sensors for any obstructions (dirt, chips). You should be able to see it from the outside as there will be little cutouts in the trapezoidal pattern for it to see through.

No problem.

By the way there is more info on it in the 463 Info Access. Follow the links for Electrical > Windshield Wiper System
