Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

Have a search on this forum .. you have a 463 unlike my 460 but this is how it works for you;

Electric button on dash
switches on vacuum valve under bonnet up by the bulkhead under the dash
The vacuum releases a spring to push the master cylinder which contains brake fluid
The brake fluid passes by hoses/pipes to axles
The slave cylinder is operated by the brake fluid to push the mechanical pin in to lock the diff lock
The electrical switch on the axles then moves and hence lights up the dash board light..

Most comments seem to be sticky vacuum valve .. check to make sure you have power to them when switch is down and there is brake fluid in the reservoir (follow the pipes).

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

I am not a 463 guru.. others are!

But .. I am guessing it lights up one colour light to say it is trying to connect the diff lock .. and then another colour light when the diff lock actually mechanically locks in on the axle...likewise when you unlock the "axle engaged" light will lag the "button engaged" light as it sometimes take a rev or to for the axle to unlock.

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

Yellow means you have activated the difs - red means it has engaged.

Are you getting yellow?

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

there is an order they need to go on in - not sure if you will get yellow if you put it on in wrong order. it goes centre-rear-front.

but sounds like it could be a switch if you're not even getting yellow.

you should be able to hear (windows down and quiet area) if the vacuum pump is firing up when you engage the dif locks.

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

listen to see if the pump activates - it could just be the light burnt out as the yellow light should go on immediately - even if your dif locks don't work.

as an aside i would get your dif locks lubed - its not good that they have never been used. mb recommend they are activated at least once a month!

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

Seeing as the lights don't work at all, may I suggest trying to remove the wooden panel to take a look behind, just to check if the switches are indeed connected.

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

I removed the wooden panel, hell off a job.
But i don't have 3 switches it's more like a little computer it's one part
i opend it but you can't take it a part.
I think i have to order a new one.

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

Glad you found your way around it. First time always most difficult! Leave the screw out of the wooden piece behind the steering wheel, so next time you can pull it out without removing the steering.
So all the connections at the back are sound? Sometimes they have small stickers on them to indicate which goes where, so if they are switched around they might be working incorrectly?

Re: DIFF LOCK PROBLEM

Everything look ok, only the price of the switch is not ok on the russian web site 286,- euro (old price).
Is there just one fuse box in a G from 1996?
