FREE Events Calendar
To assist planning throughout the year, I have created an Events Calendar accessible to all via the homepage of my event website at www.landyrally.com … bottom left-hand button.
Totally free to view it contains all the major 4x4, Land Rover and off-road shows of the year (if I have missed one – please email me!), plus a fair number of 4x4 competitions, club events and commercial off-road pay ‘n’ play days.
Obviously it can’t list everything going on, but I think you’ll find it useful nevertheless.
DISCLAIMER: Although this Calendar has been exhaustively researched, it is always advisable to contact organisers first before setting out in case of postponement, cancellation, change of venue, or the fact there may be a simple typo error on my part - please check first.
Took a lot of research but glad to pass it on. Good or a bad idea? Constructive criticism to improve it please - let me know!

Thanks a lot for your efforts Tom but I fail to see how on earth is information about The best 4x4xfar going to be of interest to fans of a lesser 4x4 such as the GWagen...
Just joking! I can now see that it's a very interesting list of events:
lol
And not a g event in sight
you saying this is ugly  come on tom, any 4x4 event you have organised has been a bit dire, same goes for your taste in motors
Hear hear

10 miles north, a call to rac to say car shot, so will get low loader to take me to my new address up north  same on the way back. very economical car my 560
haha you funny funny man, might do that next week to make the drive home for valentines day easier!
'Did i hear someone say warm and dry..................... is it spring yet?..............can i come out of hibernation?............................'
HELLO P.P (and the rest of you!!!) i like the idea of the RAC helping out with fuel consumption. and as someone who was caught speeding this week they maybe able to help out me tooo! - and no i wasn't driving my G.
mobile or standing camera you were caught on?
Standing, so no excuse!
...at least my Rangie still looks classy with its flowing, classic lines – not something even the most ardent of G-Wagen owners could say about their boxy vehicle.
Classic - Is that the polite word for something dated and ugly?
Oooo you bitch, scratch your eyes out! Listen, I know my Range Rover Classic has it’s shortcomings, but when I’m stuck in the mud ‘cause I haven’t got millions of axle lockers like you, at least my Rangie still looks classy with its flowing, classic lines – not something even the most ardent of G-Wagen owners could say about their boxy vehicle. Capable most certainly, sylish it aint! 1-1 I reckon
As usual I'll let the market talk. Why a one-owner, well kept 1996 G300 commands today a minimum of 12k, while a prospective vendor will have to pay anyone to take his contemporary Rangie away from his stylish hands? I wonder.....
i own a classic, cylinders on a 3.9 are poorly engineered with uneven positioning, not only did they make the engine run hotter for better mpg but the cooling was reduced, many, probably including mine then need new blocks as they fail, properly cast set up at leat £2,500
3-2 to the g
"Classic" because it's not bad for a design that dates back to 1970/71.
As for re-sale values? Okay, no arguement ... 2-1 to you!!!
But my Rangie is better off road. Not because of traction or where I can go, but because when a tree jumps out in front of me and I crunch my wing, mine is a lot cheaper and easier to repair than a G! 2-2 I'd say.
when a tree jumps out at us, it realises its a g wagen and runs away as it knows its going to come of worse, so no or very little damage to g. Range rovers do have an optional extra when it left solihull. RUST !! thats 4-2 to us id say

A classic design should stand the test of time. Not become dated. A good example would be a.... 1979 Mercedes Gelaendewagen. As for a Rangie standing the test of time? It barely lasts past the gates of the dealer's parking lot yet alone decades...
And the dents... what are you doing driving into trees in the first place?!?!? Most G drivers (Mark excepted) prefer to drive around them. But perhaps thats because our steering works!
Why bank robbers never use Land Rovers?
'cause the Police could easy follow the oil track, he, he, he....
Defeated gracefully tom , you knew the sympathy vote was void here. Keep up the good work, what is it you do these days anyway, apart from being a kenny Everett look alike. LOL all done in the best possible taste .
Interesting debate which I risk entering at my peril but here goes, owned in the last ten years, 2 g's, LR90, 3 x disco I & II's 1 x P38a Rangie and a current TD6 Rangie , 2 x freelander td4's.
Current fleet 85' 460 280, TD6 RR and a Toyota LC.
G scores 460 D 6/10 way to underpowered, 280 9.5/10 does exactly what I need, had lots of abuse before I got it, nearly all the mechanicals fettled needs rear body work then should last another ten years!
Land rover - scores on the doors
2003 defender 90, 6.5/10, nothing broke, went anywhere, but really does it need to be this agricultural for this much money in this day and age
Freelanders 5/10 not mine the better half's engines good (German) but never again
Disco's 7/10 value for the money, 7 seats, will go most places, but build quality simply dreadful, two new engines and three new turbos across the three cars all under 60k miles
P38A 2.5 DHSE (up to 2002 for the uninitiated) 7.5/10 very nice, but a bit underpowered like a 463 300G really  It always felt like it was about to break down but never did
04 TD6 10/10 simply great, a sense of occasion to drive, great performance on road the newer V8 diesel is even orders of magnitude better. Despite Russ280's comments in another thread it does get dirty and it does go in fields (Russ I know you are only joking) if not serious offroading like the G, but the electronics just get me out of mud that the road biased tyres say I shouldn't.
To Jesus comments on second prices a new RHD 420CDI v a new V8 RR in the same spec is a approx £25k more so I would certainly hope the residuals are better.
For the price of a that lovely new G55 at £163k in autotrader I could by a new supercharged V8 RR, a 911 C2 and an Atom for track days and have change, or the > 1 year old G55 owned by one of the brothers from Matalan with the hideous red interior having depreciated hugely in the first year, plus a 911.
In the end I love my G and RR, yes the G's are far better built than most of the LR products, but they cost a lot more and the new RR is a good car unlike the older LR models.
And now the bit that has surprised me the most, just how good the Toyota is, its the wife LC Colorado 3 ltr D replacing a newer dreadful Freelander. Its well screwed together, pretty reasonably price at 4.5 years old, feels like it will last as long as a G, good fuel consumption tows a big trailer like you don't knows its there, to early for a score only had it 4 weeks but in feels like it will be up there, only thing lacking is soul, both of which the G & the RR have in spades.
So I say live and let live, we all love our G's or we wouldn't bother having them but I can certainly see the merit in other 4x4's and whilst I will always want a G I wouldn't want to be without my Rangie either.
Right, I will now retire to the bunker and what for the tirade. I fully expect that if we make it up to Dent next weekend that I will be blackballed, have my three pointed star snapped in half and be cast asunder
Good sport Tom - As peter said defeated gracefully against an overly biased and overwhelming odds!
I think you would find that many G drivers would drive the LC if the G didn't exist. I don't think that there are any questions about the reliability or ability of the LC - it just lacks a certain "je ne sais quoi". At least the new ones do.
Just to point out a couple of half truths:

You must be taking the RHD 420CDI for a G-Wagen, when in actual fact is a GL. This vehicle has absolutely nothing to do with the G.

Price in Spain (or Germany) for a top-of-the-range G55K is € 120,000 or STG 80,000, roughly the same as a supercharged V8 RR. Good luck to the guys in autotrader if they can rip somebody off with that asking price...
GWagens do not etend to cost more than equivalent Land Rover products (in the western world) and yet they are miles away in quality terms. The market value of a GWagen such as mine (G300Diesel SWB manual in good condition) can be between STG 6,000 and STG 10,000. Try to figure how much would the equivalent cotemporary Rangie be worth today... One grand?
Just to point out a couple of half truths
Jesus, I knew i would get a reply :D not intentional half truths, I thought they had uprated the G400 to a 420 obviously incorrect, I bow to the master on all things G
However I stand by the price differential in the Uk if you factor in RHD rather than LHD. I agree things do change on mainland europe as both are LHD.

Even though I know your G is probably concours condition not sure it will last as long as 10 dispoasble RR's at the 10:1 price ratio secondhand.
I shall bow out gracefully and just assure you that I do love my G and will replace it with another (hopefully a 463) at the appropriate time, just that i recognise that other marques have things they can offer too.
PS Just think how much we would have to pay for our secondhand G's if all those drivers of other sub-standard 4X4's only liked G's
PPS better lay in extra rations for the bunker, I have made enquires about the unused 60's nuclear one near Nantwhich, I might escape the bullets if I can stay down there for a couple of decades  8)
if your bringing toyota and nissan into the equation, then i am afraid all the above will be at the bottom.

THAT is the best argument I have ever heard for owning a RR over a G!
Max, I think the americans pronounce it "eye on Knee"

Nah, organising events myself I had to create a calendar so not to clash with the big Land Rover/4x4 shows, so thought I would share my findings with the clubs and fellow enthusiasts as I know how hard it is at times to find out exactly what’s going on and where. No problem, hard work already done so it was merely a simple cut & paste job, but good to know it’s appreciated.
Obviously you will list club events in your club website here, but if you have any G-Wagen event open to the general public, by all means let me know and I’ll list them in the Calendar – no problem.
