ok, have done a search already, but here we go...

i've got a 230 w124te engine on my garage floor to go in my 88 230 swb manual.

have just been offered a 380 v8 which needs a head gasket with ecu relays, etc. its auto.

any thoughts? i would have thought that the injection system from 1985 would be simpler than the later ones/.

comments always appreciated - i bet there is no manual box option though

Re: 380

ok ian, thanks for that, nice one. had heard that the 380 was a more viable conversion than 500/560 as its simpler electronics etc

Re: 380

the 560 is simple, it has an ecu but you can actually disconnect it and it will still run fine

Re: 380

380 is a good conversion for a 460. Had one for a while. No worse fuel consumption than a 280 and a lot more power and torque. Also aluminium engine, so weight no problem. Earlier electronics a lot less involved and ignition control mudules a LOT more reliable. Sold loads of 420/560 modules @500 a piece (£2k plus retail new) and none for 380/500mk1 yet.
Wheels of 33in plus looks after ratio with std 380 autobox.
