Used Olive Oil
Hi all,
leaving in Greece it is easier to find used olive oil than anything else. My question is that can I use it in my 290 gdt? Does it need any conversion?
I try to find answers in our forum but I am quite confused  Any help is welcomed.
Cheers Angelos
I don't think so Angelos.... on two accounts: i) olive oil is too thick to work well on egines and ii) Your engine cannot work well with SVO without modification because it's a direct injection engine.
I am not certain as to what modification would your G require but I don't know of any G290GDT running on SVO....
Elsbett make a conversion kit for your G if I am not mistaken. But I agree with Mortinson that I don't think olive oil will work.
Jesus you mean does not work at all or is not recomended?Even with vegetable oil?
I mean that you would struggle to get the engine to run on olive oil, let alone start.
As for other vegetable oils, I know of no Mercedes with that engine being run on SVO (rapeseed, sunflower, corn). See for yourself: this is a databse of German users who run their vehicles on SVO. No trace of Sprinters, E290TDs or G290GTDs:

a phrase that frightened moi
"esterfication of the engine lubrication oil"
in direct injection diesels, has been noted / recorded
Hence my reliance of FSD = 90p per litre,
though i think an investigation of my local biodiesel source is in order.

Absolutely. That I am told is the problem with direct injection engines that lack prechambers... part of the fuel is unburnt and finds its way into the oil sump producing esterification.
