What model G am I looking for?

I am new here (just registered tonight).

I have for as long as I can remember loved G wagens. I am thinking about one, but cant really work out what specs are/ are not available etc etc.

Does this even exist?!

I wouldnt want one older than a 92/93/94/95 car (a 463?) Leather would be a must as would auto. I like the lwb as much as I like the swb. RHD a must.

I saw some pics posted by HUS55 of a red N plate car - I think pretty much I want that but black!

I have kept an eye on Autotrader for the last few months but the same cars seem to stay on forever.

You might be able to get one but it all comes down to money and/or patience. MBUK stopped importing the G in any quantity at around 93/94. They still made RHD Gs until about 1996 though I have never seen a 95. Of the 96s I think only 6 were imported into the UK. MB started making RHDs again in 1999 but only with the G500 and I think stopped 2001.

You will have better luck with a 91-92 but most of the early w463s that were imported (91-93) were cloth interior. There are only a few leather ones from the factory and a few more that were converted to leather. No idea how many of the 1996 are leather.... Hus' isn't. All the 1999+ G500s are leather and auto.

Auto shouldn't be a problem as it is the more common of the two.

So it means you need to be lucking in getting an early G in leather, or you get the seats recovered or you stump up the money for a G500.

Do you want diesel or auto? What's your budget?

Definitely rarer than leather! I had it on my SWB but you are the only other person I know to have had it....
