Danish Military/ex-military shortwheelbase G
There I was with the missus, walking the dogs in the early hours of Saturday (12 April) morning on a track which goes from my place over the border into Wiltshire (always carry a crucifix) when to my utter astonishment we stumbled on a camouflaged short wheelbased soft-top G-wagen parked up on the other side of a fence about 20 metres away in the grounds of an adjoining estate. Nobody in sight. It looked quite tasty with some sort of folded racking arrangement on the rear. Not sure if it was a 230 or 240. It carried a Danish registration BN UK 41, but I don't know if that is a civilian or military Danish number. Unfortunately I didn't have my mobile so couldn't take a piccy. About half a mile further on as we headed towards home, two guys in combat kit, carrying what looked like rifles - difficult to be sure at that distance - emerged from the woods and plodded along another track on the other side of a field of rape. We kept an eye on them....they kept an eye on us....until the terrain intervened. I assume the vehicle was a civvy registered Danish ex-military G, possibly belonging to somebody over here for a spot of deer stalking. Who knows?
amazing they pop up everyware.... :D

Danish military licence plates are black with a yellow crown and white numbers. (http://motov.dk/images/motovgd290_1.jpg)
Civilian plates are white, with a red line all around and black numbers/letters - Plates are usually composed of two letters and 5 numbers. (http://www.autopynt.dk/shop/pynt/nrplade1.jpg)
If it was danish, its likely a 240 GD - or even a 270 or 290 CDI (though in that case, its quite unlikely that its a civilian car)
If those guys where in combat gear(m84), i would wager its more likely that someone is/was over there for a combat drill than hunting ;)
Those Germans always had a wee bit of bother with boundaries / borders
damn right, still we put em right the last couple of times, didnt we!!!!!
we, us, as a nation.plus allies aussies, kiwis, ghurkas, indians etc.

Well here, I am not yet 50 ,

Dariat,
I'm being stupid. Suddenly remembered it was a solitary "D" on the left side of the registration plate, not "DK", which would make it a German plate, not Danish. Nothing like either of the two images you were good enough to provide above.
Hmmm! The plot thickens. It wasn't a 270 or 290; that would have got me really excited. It was an old 460.
I'm running with the visiting hunters scenario for the moment as it was on a private estate and the MoD's training area is actually several miles away. Unless they were lost, of course.....
