Ok guys...so getting closer now on the alloy purchase...but there are a few choices I would love some help on...

 1st Decision:

18 Ashtaroth on Continental 4x4 Contact 110H MO (Mercedes Oem)

Number 10 : http://www.rubicon-trail.com/G-Class/wheels/start.html

OR :?:

G55 AMG on AVS S/T type-1 285/55 R18 113V V801 (think these look v cool as a combo)

Number 16 : http://www.rubicon-trail.com/G-Class/wheels/start.html

Tire Pic here:

http://www2.yokohama-online.com/gb/tyre-products-view.php?tyreID=1016

Please note they will be for City Driving  ( I can already see the tomatoes flying my way..but at least I am honest :D )

 2nd Decision:

If I go for the 18 Ashtaroth on Continental, then I am told there are 3 choices below

18x7.5ET63 B66470548 Titanium Silver RRP £306.52 Our price £276ea
18x7.5ET63 B66470599 Sterling Silver RRP £291.01 Our price £262ea
18x7.5ET43 B66470598 Sterling Silver RRP £280.45 Our price £252ea
(Chris from Alloy Wheels Direct is very helpful)

Which finish should I go for...I really want the one closest to OEM.

Thanks for any advice/thought/inevitable jibes etc..

All the best,

Ferdi

My 500 has the 18" with continentals as you listed. Tyres are good on tarmac. That is the standard rim on the 500, the amg one was fitted to the 55. 63 offset is standard for europe. For some reason the US got 43. Don't know the difference between the 2 surface finishes you mention. Presumably one is shinny and the other dull. Tyres were £125 ea. Bridgestone was also fitted at factory.
What are you doing with your 16" rims

Re: Alloys Choice : Forum POV Requested!

basically no.9 on the list is standard for the rest of the world (non-US) et63, whereas no.10 is et43 (US market only known).
i never realised ashtaroth's come in more than 1 colour, the only other version was that launched on the classic, with polished aluminium face and black painted side surfaces (imo better looking than standard).

also don't feel restricted to OEM tyre choice when going for OEM rims, i think one of the main reasons tyres are chosen for OEM fitness is cost, so you can get something better as you are not buying tyres for an entire production run of thousands, just your four. though buying a standard-fitment tyre is a good way of ensuring it will work well with the car and will be exhaustively tested for that application.

Get the AMG rims and keep the 16" for off-road use.

Check that the rims you are offered are genuine and not replicas. The usual difference is cast vs forged aluminium, which translates into a big difference in strength.
