I was reliably informed by someone at MB UK last week that the factory are now offering g's with portal axles, I'd heard there was a 6x6 and a v8 diesel its about time they were selling them over here again !! have asked him for more info

The 6x6s are built for the Australian Army. I think they have an armored cab and can carry up to 3 tons of load.

I think this photo is from GWOA factory tour.

EDIT - Sorry the GWOA was contacted by Daimler and requested to remove any photos of a military nature which were taken during their factory tour at risk of legal action.

I know nothing about the portal Gs, but may be worth asking somebody who is better informed. But I have also heard the rumours about the V8 CDI. It should come on market around 2011 and there will be no more a petrol V8.

That's strange, 'coz what I heard was that MB Germany had discontinued supplying Unimog Portal axles to ORC so that they could not continue doing the conversions of Gs.... I would find very strange that given the progressive bias of the G towards luxury they would now offer such a thing!

Jesus, why would mb feel the need to do this to Orc, what possible gain could this have to mb to prevent a company from modifying a g wagen for a customer, it's just doesn't add up

I don't know. It's just what I heard. I gather that it had something to do with potential litigation in case of an accident....
