I've never removed them but from what I understand you can pull them off while very gently heating them with a heat gun on low.

You then need to remove the adhesive on the back and put on more double sided tape to reuse them.

thanxs maxwell, best respond so far. I dont understand how can any sane
mind put mouldings with double sided stickers on a G wagen. best SUV in the world.

I think they did it to prevent the chance of rust developing from screw holes as on a 460.

Out of curiosity why do you need to remove them?

you know what else is put on with adhesive? those aluminium rails that line the roof, and how many of those have you seen come off in recent years? adhesive bonding is very effective if used properly, why else would they use it for supercars and missiles ;)

Well they used it on the space shuttle and we all know what happened there... but seriously yes it is actually just as strong as welding. A lot of parts on airplanes are glued as well and you figure they will have a lot more stress than any part on a G!

A respray is on the way Max. Having screw holes does not neccesarily mean they will rust. you can avoid that if you want to. Anyway we just have to live with the fact that 463 's have these unpractical things sometimes.
whatever you say I like servicable things. which are assembled with bolts and nuts and screws, where you can access anything you want with out problems. but that is me off course.

Re: 463 side mouldings

You already need to respray a 463? Are your changing colour or is the paint damaged?

How much is it costing you to respray? Just wondering in case I need to do it to mine.... and yes mine is scratched and pocked. Though I could probably get the paint corrected.

I agree - I prefer nut/bolts, screws to snaps, glue and rivets. On the other hand I prefer the clean look of the 463 mouldings.... so in my case I don't know what the solution would be....

Re: 463 side mouldings

The adhesive tape on new mouldings is extremely sticky and won't even permit any repositioning, if you line them up wrong. (Had to change a damaged one a few years ago.)

staying away from the bush? it's a G - not a RR! it's designed for leaving chelsea and getting a little dirty.

actually now that i have the mud off of it - it is not as bad as i thought, but still does need some work.
