new konis and eibachs with goodridge hoses.
It has been a long wait for various reasons but it is all there at last.
Konis are at their softest settings, and it is very good and really comfortable.
Eibachs! You can't wrong them. They are the best for G wagen if you ask me. 8).
now show us the pice shakir
i knew it was only a matter of time before you started all over again.....
is the ride still limo smooth mate?
looks good, now all i have to do is test it 8)
We have the same Konis fitted to our G400 Cabrio, with standard springs. Maybe they are faulty, but even on the softest setting, they are too hard and every little imperfection on the road is felt severely. I've decided to refit OEM.
I'd be interested to hear if your experience with them is different.
How much were the Eibachs and where from?
The vehicle is an import from Germany: a G400 cabrio. It was fitted with ORC guards underneath and so I presume the Konis are also from ORC.
They are the "4x4 Heavy-Track" version.
The previous UK owner spent nearly £200 at an MB dealer having them adjusted to the softest setting, but of course I've not checked that they were adjusted the right way.
At the moment it feels as as if they are solid steel rods, and not dampers. Even on smooth tarmac, they transmit every tiny imperfection.
However, I did notice that after a long drive, once they have warmed-up a bit, they do become marginally softer.
hi had the "HEAVY TRACK RAIDS" on my previous G, a 280 GEL and they were the 'DADDY' of shocks and although they were stiff they were still not too bad on the medium setting.
as for the G4OO cab arnie, is that the one that ballooner was advertising?
are you the knew owner?
your problem also lies in the brabus alloys in conjunction with the konis.

Having heard of those plonkers at MB garages, it would not surprise me if they had set them the wrong way around....

Arnie - Hus has a valid point. What size rims do you have? The Konis aren't particularly well suited for 18" rims....
The wheels are 18" and fitted with 285/55 Yokohamas (OEM pattern). Granted that they give a harder ride than 16", but the OEM rear shocks are fine, which I figure should be at least matched on the softest setting of the Konis.
Anyway, I'll take them off and see if they were adjusted the right way round.
...And yes, the G400 is the cabrio that Balloner was selling on consignment for another customer.
A few things on it have needed attention, but very good overall.
so far:-
>>> Slow oil-leak from lower sump (re-tighten bolts)
>>> Poor FM reception: suspect antenna amplifier not working (to be investigated)
>>> Some broken dash fixings and air vents from previous inexperienced attempt at removing parts.
>>> Electric seat-adjust switch not working (removed, cleaned and OK now).
>>> front shocks too hard (as discussed here)
>>> clear indicator lenses fogged and need replacement.
>>> 3rd brake-light missing.
>>> Front fog-lights missing breather pipes (bumper had been removed for winch)
>>> Ext. temperature sensor needs fixing (left dangling after bumper refit).
>>> Some wiring mods for winch (now removed)
>>> Paintwork on offside has scrapes from tree-branches (some touch-up required.)
>>> Rear prop-shaft a bit rusty (now repainted)
Coolant, Auto transmission fluid and Vee-belt changed at MB Brooklands
Engine oil, Brake fluid, PAS fluid, Transfer-case-oil, differential oil, prop-shaft re-grease and Waxoyl treatment remain to be done.
Here you go Huss. Ride is very comfy and composed .
