G500 what tyres are the best to put on?
Hi,
I have a G500 with 265 60 18 on at the moment. It seems quite a rare size for tyres. I am after an all terrain tyre that I can take off road and also copes with every day driving. What do you guys reccommend without me having to change the rims?
Thanks
Steve
If you want to stick with the standard size there are some mild off road paterns available. I have continentals, there is also geolander yokohama. If you want to go to a larger size then there are a few more available manufacturers. Cooper do a fairly agresive mud pattern in 265/75-18 I think. BF goodridge do something around 33" too. Or you can buy a set of 16" rims and have many more options if you regularly use it off road
depends on what you mean by off-road. but brigdestone duellers were another factor fit tire.
The Yokohamas are ok for the road. Someone on here who knows about such things recomended Michelin Synchrone.
Fred has michelins but they are 265/55 so are slightly smaller than standard

Thats fred
Yes I had the michelin synchrone guys but got rid of the wheels and tyres and have put 16" asthratoth on my 500 as it looks much better and got BFG's all terrain on, got better use off road and good handling on road as well....
Saying this i should have stayed with the bridgestone dueller rather than the synchrone as they were a bit too small.
I think bfg's have got an all terrain tyre on 18" or cooper but on off road patern that i will not recomend as every day use but choice is yours, all depending on your driving..
What kind of off roading will you do? if just light lanning then the bridgestone duellers are the way forward ...they were also the factory choice at the time the 500 came out.
Fred
As to the cooper on off road pattern i know a crasy guy driving them every day on a 400 ..lol
Fred mentioned BFG All /Terrain and that he was happy.
You could fit a BFG A/T onto yours as they now supply a 265/65x18 . This is the same pattern tyre as Fred mentioned.
It is slightly higher/Taller than standard but when fitted all round will be fine.
I have the 18" rims too and have 255/60x18 General A/T2 on mine. These are H speed rated and have a high load index so no MOT issues. I tried and failed to get my 1st preference tyre the BFG at the time of changing.
Have fun.

Mike
PS correct me if I am mistaken Fred had 255/55x18 Synchrone on if I remember correctly. Same size as on alot of Disco2 and now Q7 & Toureg's as O.E.
Bfg all terrain, 18" is what I would go for
Yokohama, exactly as recommended by MB, are very good all round but with an emphasis on tarmac. On 18" rims.
The latest Yokohama AT are also good but on 16" rims.
Both tried and tested.
One other slight consideration, may not be important depending on where you are living/driving.
The BFG Mud and A/T tyres are at best a "T" rated tyre up to 119mph. Your G comes with Yokohama which to the best of my knowledge were a "V" rated tyre.
MOT and rules in some countries may mean you have to fit a tyre with the same or higher speed rating.
I don't know if this applies in the UK, as I never heard it brought up in relation to this but it does in Germany I believe. This would also affect insurance cover in these countries if one were to change things.
BFG do make higher speed rated tyres and good one's but not for the application you are looking for.
Happy days or is it daze!

Mike
Has anyone got the yokohama geolander tyres? What are they like?
