Hi
Can anyone tell me if the gear ratios are the same for petrol and diesel 463 transfer boxes ?
I understand the 460 transfer box is higher geared for the diesel but then this is a slow revving engine.
Many thanks

Transferboxes are the same for all 460 models (VG080 750.600), with two speeds, on-road (1:1) and off-road (2.14:1).

All W460s sold in the UK (230GE, 280GE and 300GE) had the same diff ratios (44:9 or 4.888:1).

The only differences were that the 230GE and the 300GE had the same gearbox ratios, whereas the 280GE had different ones.

As for the 463, early models (200GE, 230GE and 300GE plus 250GD and 300GD) had the VG150 transferbox whose ratios were 1:1 and 2.16:1) whereas later models have a longer on-road ratio (0.87:1), but there is no distinction between diesel and petrol models.
