As I am total newbie in field of tyres, can somebody help me to identifify the tyres on pic I added. Rims are definitely Borbet, and I guess they are 15'' (could be also 16''). You can see outline white lettering and pattern looks like BFG Mud Terrain T/A, so I guess that's they are? But what about these massive size? I am totally hipped and would like to put something like these to my G too! Could they be 33x10,5x15 ? What's your oppinion? Thanks for any help

i agree with huss..
i'd guess 35" as well, looks bigger than 33" to my untrained eyes

Re: Tyres and rims for identification

Thanks folks!

I think you might be right indeed, as they are soooooo massive!!! But are other dimensions for 35''? Are they available only for 15'' or 16'' rims too? I try to find out myself, but who produces 35''? Is BFG on of them?

Thanks again!

Hi,
33" BFG mud will fit with no issues under a 463 and look the part too. Been there, done that!

35" woops that needs a whole lot more thought. First have a look at some of the US sites and you will see whats involved to do it right. Also they will rub on near full lock. They will also come out further than the standard arches will cover.

But, have fun trying and if you do succeed please post some pictures.

PM me if you want a cheap set of 33" mud t/a.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike

I am really indecision right now - 35'' are real eyecandys, but as you mentioned, a lot of work will be involved...
I wouldn't mind but wider fenders to my G, but the rest...
As 33'' would fit no problem, temptation to go simpler way is big.
Mike, to you have any pics where 33'' are installed on G?

Re: Tyres and rims for identification

Did the 4x4 challenge for charity(McMillian Challenge type event) this year in my LWB 463. I put the 33\10.50x15 BFG Mud t\a on (came off my 460 petrol) OE 460 15" rims and bolted these straight onto the 463. They looked brill or so a few others thought. No issues with grip or rubbing anywhere and they filled the arches nicely.

Since then I reverted back to my 18" rims with 265/65x18 BFG All terrain on and equally these also look the business. For a second opinion look at the Castlecoole pics on the forum(91G reg).

I have loads of customers who have purchased 35\12.50x15 muds from me and its all for the look. Most of those working their vehicle use narrower and slightly lower--- less hassle, less diesel/petrol.

Will try and find some pics of it with the muds on.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike and rest of the G-ang!

Maybe 33'' will be better choice for starter... less hassle for newbie like me, can always upgrade for 35'' later on.
When it is going for buying, I will definitely PM you Mike, but I guess it happens only in coming summer.
Meanwhile I found another pic, what are your thoughts this time - are they little smaller, 33''s maybe?

Used to email back and forth with him. He had a G300TD until quite recently which he sold and replaced with a G55K.

Mick - I think that was for sale quite recently... and not cheap...

Re: Tyres and rims for identification

Hi Huss,
Thanks for the pics, there great hadn't seen them before.
Yeah, them is deffo 35" for the most part. Ask PP what he thought of them for a second opinion.
Still reckon 33" are class under the arches for a road usable machine day to day without swapping wheels to do the dirty thing.

Firkin 'ell Mick you must 'ave won the lotto or somewhat looking towards your next project like that. Hutchinson wheels,XCL tyres and all that work ya must be mad.

Speaking of Mad, spoke withanother guy tonight and he has just started onto modifying his wine colouredG challenge vehicle. Trayback rear shortened, rearmounted rad, snub nosed front with integral exo cage. I blame Tony, its alll his fault, modifying a perfectly good G like he did, now he has us allgone mad cutting and shuttin all overthe place.

Regards,

Mike

Re: Tyres and rims for identification

I'm in full agreement with tyreman, 33" are the best all rounders, and more to the point at the three peaks his G on 33" m/t's went pretty much every where the other G in our team on 35" simexs went!

Me, Ive got self control issues! just for reference this is my G on 37"

@tyreman, Is that Mr Mullins wine G you speak of?
on the crew cab project I went to look at a white lwb
300gd with a turbo conversion about a year ago with the intetion of building a strech crew cab,the price didnt reflect the condition, but the seller also had "oil" and I ended uo doing a deal with him for it!
kind of glad now as I think I would want to start with a 463 now.

Re: Tyres and rims for identification

Huss,

Thats not "beefed up" thats "pimped out".

You need to take a trip over here now that you are retired and see some of the trails we have to drive on daily and you will see why we drive what we do.
Stay out of Dublin and going to work can become a winch challenge event depending on where you live.

Mick/ yeah joe found a replacement disc for the consaw, heaven help us all, hes shortening front and rear ends and still hasn't given up hope for the zuki body on the G...... madman.

Regards,

Mike

PS Huss you have it in great condition as always.

Re: Tyres and rims for identification

tyreman, Ive seen the wheels on your 463!! glass houses, stones and all that!!
they do look great all the same!

sounds like the three peaks affected me and joe in the same way!
I don't think I can condone a zook shell on a G wagen, but then again I want to put a G body on a bedford mj 4x4 truck chassis, (there a cheap 4x4 truck), so as I said at the start of this post, glass houses, stones and all that!!
